Chapter 40 - The World of Two

After I finished harvesting all the magic wheat seedlings nearby, I carried them on my back and continued searching for other ingredients. "Need any help?" Ennis asked me. "No, let the man handle the heavy work," I replied. We walked step by step across the plain, no longer using flight magic. From my observations, although the flora and fauna of the demon realm differed from the human world, their functions and shapes were similar, much like the differences between my homeland and foreign lands in the real world. Except for the absence of sunlight, with only moonlight here, I guessed the plants probably didn't rely on photosynthesis. We grew tired and sat down to rest on a large rock. I took a water bottle from my waist—naturally, the bottle was crafted with my magic. It contained juice made from dates I picked that morning, ground and mixed with magic sugar and clear water. The half-natural, half-synthetic flavor should be decent. I poured a cup of juice and handed it to Ennis. "What's this?" she asked, curiously examining the drink. "A new beverage I made. Try it," I said. Ennis took a slow sip, then began drinking heartily. "It tastes great! So refreshing," she said with a smile, handing the cup back. I took it, poured another cup, and handed it to her. "You try it too," she said, passing it back. I drank a cup myself, and it tasted as good as a freshly made drink from a tea shop. Making something like this in the demon realm was no small feat. Sharing the same cup felt intimate, almost like we were a couple, and I couldn't help but feel a bit shy.

"By the way, Ennis, how long have you lived in the demon realm? Have you ever been to the human world?" I struck up a conversation. "About 3,600 years, I think. I visited the human world once, over 800 years ago," she replied. Her answer shocked me. Was Ennis really that old? I looked at her in astonishment. The youthful woman before me didn't look like someone who had lived for millennia. No wonder she was so powerful. Seeing my surprised expression, Ennis asked, "Do I seem old to you?" "Not at all! You're the most beautiful and elegant woman I've ever met. Honestly, meeting you in this unfamiliar demon realm is a blessing," I answered firmly. She smiled softly, resting her head on my shoulder. Boldly, I put my left arm around her, and she didn't resist. We sat there, nestled together, admiring the familiar moonlight.

"Where's your hometown?" she asked. Not wanting to hide anything, I told her everything—my entire journey from the real world to this one. We trusted each other completely, so there was no need for secrets. Ennis was a bit surprised by my story but gradually accepted it. "If you defeat the demon king, will you return to your world?" she asked with deep emotion. "In my old world, I was like a withered leaf drifting in the wind, living the same repetitive life every day. Coming to this world, I met all sorts of friends who brought new colors to my life. But it was meeting you that truly elevated my existence. You are my world. Wherever you are, I'll be there too, whether we defeat the demon king or not, until the end of time," I said earnestly. Moved[Ennis, moved to tears, fell into my arms, and we embraced and kissed.

After a brief rest, we continued onward. "Can we eat those?" Ennis pointed at a group of beasts in the distance. I looked closely—they were black cows! The demon realm had cows too. But then, several saber-toothed tiger-like magical beasts charged toward the cows, ready to attack. I couldn't let that happen. Dropping the wheat stalks, I prepared to rush over. "I'll handle it," Ennis said, flying over. The magical beasts, upon seeing her, knelt and scurried away. I hurried over and saw Ennis petting the black cows. After observing them, I realized they might be dairy cows. I crouched under one and tried milking it, and sure enough, milk came out. My mind raced with excitement—milk, eggs, wheat! With these, we could make pastries. But how would we get the cows back? I was stumped. "Ennis, any ideas on how to transport these cows?" I asked. "Easy," she said, snapping her fingers. Instantly, the cows, she, and I were teleported back to the courtyard. "Amazing, as expected of you!" I praised. "What's next?" she asked. "Let me think." We now had five black cows, some black chickens, and wheat. Time to plan the farm. "Ennis, keep an eye on the cows. I'll build a barn," I said, heading to the farm. There, I planned the layout, used magic to create a barn, water troughs, and other facilities, and built a large fence to enclose the nearby grassland. I returned to Ennis and asked her to teleport the cows into the fenced area. "Thanks, you make things so much easier," I said, kissing her cheek before getting back to work. Ennis turned away, a bit embarrassed. The cows were docile, grazing freely in the pasture for now, though I noticed they lacked horns, which was odd for demon realm cows. Next was the wheat. I conjured a hoe and began tilling the soil. "Ennis, can you multiply these wheat seedlings by ten or so? I'll plant them," I said. She began casting her magic while I kept tilling. We worked in perfect harmony. "Your outfit isn't great for this kind of work. Want to change into something lighter?" I said while tilling. "You're right," she replied, transforming into a short skirt outfit with a wave of her hand. It suited her perfectly—she looked stunning in anything. I finished tilling and started planting the seedlings. "I want to try too!" she said eagerly. "Alright, I'll teach you," I replied happily. In this remote corner of the demon realm, we toiled together, farming the land, sweating side by side, free from the world's troubles. I'd traveled the cosmos, searching for my own star. Now, I'd found it.
