Chapter 39 - Cultivation

In the Demon Realm's Hall of Ten Thousand Demons, "So even Gahu has been defeated? This generation's Hero is stronger than expected," the Emperor Ba said indifferently. Mino spoke, "Your Majesty, our informant in Tianlai Sanctuary observed that the Hero collapsed after defeating Lord Gahu. I suggest we take this opportunity to poison the Hero and eliminate future threats." "No need. They're just a rabble in the end. By the way, have Ennis revive him," the Emperor replied. "Yes, sir," Mino said, then retreated.Today, I woke up early and went outside the palace, thinking I was the first to rise. To my surprise, Ennis was already strolling in the garden. I hurried to prepare breakfast and was about to head out to gather ingredients when I ran into some Demon Realm personnel. "You're human? Why are you here?" Mino asked, eyeing me. I was so startled I didn't know how to respond. At that moment, Ennis approached. "He's a slave I captured to work in my garden. What business do you have with me?" she said. Mino glanced at me and said to Ennis, "Greetings, Lady Ennis. Lord Gahu was defeated by the Hero in the Human Realm. The Emperor Ba sent me to ask you to revive Lord Gahu." Ennis scoffed, "One after another, all so useless. I'm tired of being a tool... What are you standing there for? Get to work!" She shooed me away. Understanding her cue, I set off to gather ingredients. (Emperor Ba, who is this woman, and how is she connected to the Demon King? Also, didn't the Hero come to the Demon Realm? Why are they back in the Human Realm? Am I the only one left here?) I pondered as I headed out. While exploring the forest, I found a nest of eggs in the area where I caught a black chicken yesterday. I wondered if I could set up a farm in the courtyard to avoid constant hunting. I started making a cage and searched nearby for black chickens and other eggs. My efforts paid off—I caught four chickens and collected seven eggs. After putting them in the cage, I looked for edible wild vegetables and stumbled upon some fruits resembling wild grapes. I tasted one; it was indeed like a grape. Maybe I could use them to make wine. I picked a bunch, but soon realized I had too much to carry. Using magic, I created a handcart to load my haul. On the way back, I found some orange-colored fruits resembling green dates and picked those too. As I walked, I thought about asking Ennis to help transform an area near the courtyard into a farm for a stable food supply. Before an open clearing, Ennis quickly cast a resurrection spell, and soon Gahu was revived, just like Ding'er before him. "I got careless. Thanks, Ennis," Gahu said gratefully. "Losing to a bunch of kids? That's a disgrace to the Three Demon Generals," Ennis sneered. "If you're done, get lost. Don't block my way," she said, waving him off. "(Miss? More like an old hag)," Gahu muttered under his breath. "Looks like you want to die again," Ennis said with a menacing smile. "Sorry, sorry, my mistake!" Gahu and Mino hurriedly fled.I finally returned to the courtyard with my cart. Ennis saw me and asked, "What took you so long?" "Sorry, I gathered extra ingredients," I replied. Using the hard-earned ingredients, I made a hearty breakfast, and Ennis and I ate in the courtyard's small pavilion. After the meal, I said, "Ennis, I'd like to find a spot near the courtyard to raise poultry and grow crops for a stable food supply. But first, could you teach me advanced object creation magic? I want to make daily necessities myself." "Sure," she agreed easily, which was smoother than I expected. In the courtyard, she personally taught me the essence and tricks of object creation magic. Following her method, I finally created items that wouldn't vanish. "Your magical power is exceptional for a human. Creating permanent objects requires injecting a massive amount of magic," she remarked, observing my spell. Indeed, I've always had an inexhaustible supply of magic for some reason. Could it be because of that orb I touched long ago? I wondered."Are these flowers all planted by you?" I asked. "Mm," she replied. "Got it. I'll help you maintain them daily. I like flowers too," I said. Ennis gave a slight smile. Together, we chose an empty plot to the left of the courtyard and used magic to build a chicken coop, vegetable patch, and fish pond. It looked quite impressive. Ennis, who had always been idle and alone, worked diligently alongside me, as if she'd found new joy in life. Once we were nearly done, I wanted to go back to the forest to catch some fish. "Ennis, could you teach me flight magic? I still can't fly," I asked. "Sure," she replied cheerfully. Getting her to agree to anything was too easy now, and I was starting to get a bit cocky. No, I need to stay humble. Under her guidance, I learned to fly in just about an hour. Excited, I flew toward the forest, with her quietly following behind. "Fish again today?" she asked. "No, I'll catch some to raise. Today, I want to see if there are new ingredients," I replied as I flew. Though I wanted to ask about the Demon King, I held back, fearing it might be too personal. After flying far, we landed on a plain and began exploring. Though this was Ennis's territory, she didn't seem to manage it much. "What's this?!" I exclaimed, spotting grains resembling wheat, though there were only a few stalks. I studied them closely—they were indeed like wheat. "Ennis, do you know duplication magic? Could you help me replicate more of these plants?" I asked. "No problem," she said, preparing to act. "Wait, let me dig up the whole plant first and take it back to the courtyard for cultivation," I said. "Alright," she agreed. The Demon Realm's species were surprisingly diverse, no less than the Human Realm's, though the environment was harsher. Could this be a mirror world? I speculated.
