Fledrock chuckled softly at her correction, but there was a flicker of something else in his eyes something unreadable.
"My apologies, Miss Ashborn," he said with a polite nod. "I wasn't aware of your family change." He said it genuinely, as though he truly didn't know. Whether that was the truth or not… who knows?
Alina didn't respond. She only stared back at him in silence.
Her reaction, though, caught Max, Jack, and even Ray off guard. They exchanged brief glances.
Now that I think about it… Max thought, she didn't give her surname when we all first introduced ourselves.
Is she from a big family? The same thought passed through all three of them. But none of them came from influential backgrounds, so they didn't know much about noble houses whether strong or fallen.
Fledrock, however, didn't comment further. He just leaned back into his chair with that same knowing smile.
