Lethia could feel her palms sweating against the rifle grip as the elevator doors opened on the fifth floor. Her steps halted, and an idea struck her.
She spun around and pressed all three elevator buttons, calling them up to the fifth floor, then quickly ducked behind the wall, rifle raised and ready to shoot. She motioned for Adam to do the same.
The elevators didn't have any LED indicators showing which floor they were on, so really, it was a gamble.
The idea might've backfired; one of those elevators could very well be carrying enemies. So she stayed on guard, finger near the trigger.
The first elevator opened—empty. Without wasting a second, Lethia slipped a paintball bullet between the elevator doors to jam the sensor and stop it from closing.
Luckily, when the second and third elevators opened at the same time, there were no enemies inside either. She repeated the same move, wedging paintballs into the door tracks.
