The bell rung out by the daunting gate of Lord William's estate.
The Bretum, hurled open the door and managed a faint smile. "Oh, Lord Walter. Welcome home."
Walter swept in, appropriately attired, and moved gracefully. "Bretum. It's been a while. Where is my brother"
"My lord," Bretum said, moving aside to allow him in. "Lord William is in his room. But. I must caution you, he's not in the good of moods today. You need to be careful"
Walter smiled gently. "He always is. Don't worry about it—I'll handle it. He is my brother."
Not waiting for another warning, Walter approached William's room and pushed it open. What he saw left him momentarily stunned.
Jonathan slept on William's lap, his face peaceful, his breathing soft.
For an instant, a softness crossed William's face as he looked down at the sleeping Jonathan. But the moment he spotted Walter, he hardened.
"Why are you here?" William demanded, not even trying to hide his irritation.
