Chapter 82 - Chapter 22: Birds of a Feather

At 9:00 pm on September 15th, in Washington, DC, there was a hazy drizzle in the sky, which was not common in the dry autumn.

The street lamps emit orange light, which appears dim in the drizzle.

Arlington is an important district in Washington, DC, where many government office buildings, including the Pentagon, are concentrated.

A Rolls-Royce Phantom was parked in front of a six-story European-style building in Arlington. An elderly man wearing a double-breasted striped suit and a top hat walked out of the car.

He has a pair of gray-brown eyes and holds a tin cane with an intricate dragon decoration on the handle.

He has an extraordinary demeanor and an elegant demeanor, which reminds people of some of the royal nobles in Europe who have received strict doctrines.

The only thing that made him look a little ungracious was the anxious expression that occasionally flashed across his face.

The man got out of the car and walked quickly into the building. He took the elevator to the sixth floor of the building, pushed open the door and walked into the largest office on the sixth floor.

"You're late, Tianus." There were already more than a dozen other people sitting in the office, and there were some people like bodyguards standing around. The first person to speak was a black man with silver hair and a solemn face.

"We always show up on time, never early and never late." Tianus's words were stiff, but his tone was polite.

It seemed like he was stating common sense, and was also reminding everyone present that he was not late, he just arrived at the right time.

"We are not vampires and don't understand your nonsense ." The silver-haired black man snorted meaninglessly and said.

"Okay~ Brenor, we are here to solve the problem and negotiate. Don't start a quarrel right away." A middle-aged bald man with gold-rimmed glasses stood up to smooth things over.

"Gentlemen, let's start our topic. Brenor, you can go and argue with Tianus alone later." A blond middle-aged white man sitting at the top of the conference table interrupted the black man who was about to say something.

"Okay, Mr. Chairman." said the black man named Brenor, and glared at Tianus fiercely.

Just as the black Brenor said before, Tianus is a vampire. Except for Tianus, the rest of the people present are human.

The meeting was organized by the President's Office. The blond middle-aged man in the upper seat was the White House contact and the convener of this meeting. He also represented the President with full authority and would report the meeting information to the President as soon as possible.

Also present at the meeting was the leader of the Vampire Special Events Department, Mr. Lynch, a member of the Vampire Clan who secretly wanted to become a vampire. He was the bald man with gold-rimmed glasses who had just come out to smooth things over.

At the same time, the National Security Council also held a meeting. The person attending the meeting was the black old man Brenor who had just mocked Tianus.

Frank's old friend , the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Cyclops Nick Fury, also attended the meeting.

Plus Tianus, the chief elder of the Vampire Elder Council of North and South America.

This is the highest-level vampire joint meeting in the United States and even in North and South America.

The purpose of the topic is simple, it is about the Vampire Farm incident.

"The president does not want this incident to have too much of an impact. It will cause ordinary people to panic and will be detrimental to social stability." The first person to speak was the White House contact, the blond man.

He said high-sounding words that he didn't even believe. If you really want to understand what he said, it's best to think of it as: the president doesn't want the vampire incident to affect his voter support.

The next person to speak after the blond man was Lynch: "We have contacted the news media to delete all the news about vampires. And when we borrowed the intelligence, we had already moved all the people in the basement away, and the reporters didn't film anything."

"This will just turn into an ordinary missing person case. The sudden disappearance of Mr. Lanka, a wealthy New Yorker, may attract a lot of attention, but it will not have any impact on society."

As a vampire's vanguard, Lynch is already familiar with handling these matters.

"Ha~ Then what? Did the people in your department just finish their work? What about those humans who were grown like plants? Where did they go?" Brenor laughed sarcastically.

"Of course we have properly resettled those people." Mr. Lynch said in an unhappy tone.

"What you mean by proper resettlement is sending them all to the Gulag Archipelago?" Brenor took a tray of documents from Nick Fury and threw it on the conference table.

Many photos and documents were spread out on the table, and these photos made Lynch look very embarrassed.

The Gulag Archipelago is an independent island off the east coast that was previously used to detain serious criminals but was later abandoned, leaving only a few people on the island to do maintenance and keep the island's navigation lighthouse running.

The number of people rescued from the vampire farm this time was 8,500, including many women and children.

These people have had their frontal lobes removed. In simple terms, they have become living dead, or in a vegetative state.

These people must be resettled by the government, and this task is naturally handed over to the vampire-related departments.

Mr. Lynch's solution was also very direct. He would transfer everyone to the Gulag Archipelago, make use of the prison on the island, and then give these vegetative patients some fixed nutrients to prevent them from dying immediately.

As for what will happen to the people inside after the limelight passes, only God knows.

It seemed that this matter was exposed by SHIELD, and the information was thrown directly on the table, which made Lynch very embarrassed.

"This is only a temporary solution. We need time to deal with these things slowly. The primary goal now is to prevent the news media from knowing these things." As a good politician, telling lies with open eyes is a necessary skill.

Lynch spoke righteously, as if everything he did was for the sake of the government and the country.

"I hope so. I'll keep an eye on that place." Nick Fury, who had been silent all this time, spoke for a rare moment. His cold tone made Lynch very uncomfortable.

"Okay, okay, the president said he knows Mr. Lynch's decision and thinks he handled it right. The priority now is to reduce the impact." The blond man once again interrupted a quarrel that was about to break out.

"Now our topic is, Mr. Tianus. You and your Council of Elders, as well as the vampires under the Council of Elders, have not abided by the armistice agreement. Your actions are a declaration of war against us!"

"No, no, no, sir, I think you are wrong. The vampires are all law-abiding and we have abided by the armistice agreement very well." Tianus smiled and denied the blond man's accusation against him.

"At that time, the Vampire Empire and the twenty-eight allies of the Human Alliance signed a ceasefire agreement. Over the years, we have never thought of provoking a war. We have never attacked the people of the ceasefire countries."

Tianus held his cane and paced in the office. "I didn't know about the blood farm in New York, but later Lanka confessed to me that none of the humans he captured were Americans or citizens of the former allies."

"The blood clan has no intention of provoking the powerful American government, and we will never take action against American civilians." Tianus said as he stood at one end of the conference table.

"But you provoked humans and broke your promise not to attack humans." Brenor could not tolerate Tianus's unrepentant attitude.

"Because my people are hungry! They need food. What would happen if a large number of hungry vampires appeared on the streets of America? We need a food source!" Tianus said tit for tat.

"We have provided you with food. The plasma reserves in the human blood bank are already below the warning line! How many emergency patients have died on the operating table because they could not get blood transfusions!"

"And all that life-saving plasma was eaten by you and your people as food!" Brenor was already furious when he said this.

"Sir, I must remind you that every bag of plasma taken out of the blood bank by the Vampire Empire was paid with real money!" Tianus said without showing any weakness.

"The government has called on people to go out on the streets to donate blood for free. During holidays, there is always a line of people waiting in front of the blood donation vehicles for free blood donation."

"The government has not paid a penny to its own taxpayers, and yet we have to pay $200 for every 100CC bag of plasma we take from the government's blood bank!" Tianus inadvertently revealed his fangs as he spoke.

"The vampires obtains food based on the principle of equal exchange. This is not something you provide for free!"

"If a patient dies due to lack of blood, it is not because of our appetite, but because of your own greed for money!"

Tianus's words made the meeting room silent. This was a real and embarrassing problem. The patient's lack of blood did not mean that the blood bank really had no blood.

Instead, the government sold most of the plasma to the Vampire Empire for profit.

The government makes a lot of money by calling on people to donate blood for free and then selling it to vampires at high prices.

The only one who spoke now was Nick Fury. "We found some of the Americans you kidnapped in the warehouse by the Hudson River."

His only intact eye was staring at Tianus.

"I think you are the famous Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury. Nice to meet you." Tianus said with a smile, not caring about Nick's gaze.

"I don't quite understand what happened by the Hudson River. I said the Vampire Empire would not attack Americans. Did you find vampires by the Hudson River? Are you sure there is evidence that it was done by the vampires?"

Of course Nick couldn't find it. The three vampires who were handed over were purified into dust by Frank, so where was the evidence?

"And respected Director, please don't forget. The vampires are the most honest taxpayers." Tianus suddenly talked about another topic.

"As far as I know, the entire blood clan pays nearly $200 billion in taxes to the US government every year for all its industries and personal taxes in North America. The US tax revenue is 3.3 trillion dollars a year, and we account for nearly 7% of the total US tax revenue."

At this point, the entire conference room fell silent. This was something everyone knew. Vampires have existed for too long, and they are deeply rooted in many industries.

If we were to eradicate them all overnight, the entire United States would be plunged into turmoil.

"And let's not talk about the huge amount of money we pay to the US government every year to buy plasma." Tianus paused, and only then did he take off his hat.

"Director Nick, please allow me to remind you. Many of your SHIELD's expenses cannot be paid with normal funds, and who do you think is paying for those hidden expenses?" Tianus said with a sneer on his face.

"As I said, the vampires will not be enemies of the United States, nor do they want to provoke the government. I am very sorry for this incident. The Empire will compensate the families of all victims. And I promise that this will not happen again next time."

Tianus said with a faint smile.

"How can you guarantee your oath? Can it cover up the vampires' hunger ?" Brenor asked.

"There has been a breakthrough in the research of artificial plasma. I believe that one day we will coexist peacefully." Tianus's words caused everyone in the conference room to whisper.

"And to show its sincerity, the Vampire Empire is willing to punish the culprit Lanka by making him bathe in sunlight without protection." Tianus's trip was full of sincerity.

None of the officials present really wanted to go to war with the vampires, except Brenor and Nick, who were still staring at Tianus with vigilant eyes.

It was already midnight when they walked out of the building. After constant arguments and compromises, the human government once again reached a peace agreement with the vampires.

It's ridiculous, but this is what politicians are like.

Standing in the building, Brenor was watching Tianus's Rolls-Royce Phantom slowly drive away through the window. He asked Nick Fury who was standing next to him, "Do you believe him?"

"I don't believe in any vampires." Nick's answer was concise and powerful.

"I don't believe it either, but I don't have the final say on the Security Council," Brenor said unwillingly. "There are always people who only see the immediate benefits and don't look at the long-term plans."

"Nick, I need you to get everyone in SHIELD to take action. I have a bad feeling. As for the Security Council, I will do my best to smooth things over for you and prevent them from holding you back."

"Did that girl tell you that bad premonition?" Nick Fury asked without any context.

Brenor smiled but did not answer.

Inside the Night Walker base, Jason and Peter looked through all the news but did not see any connection with the New York Blood Farm.

The most reported news was that New York tycoon Lanka had disappeared.

However, Jason already knew that this matter was not that simple, so he recorded the video.

"Useless Night Walker. The government will have people delete your uploaded videos soon." Frank already knew what happened to Jason and Peter at Lanka Manor.

He knew very well that the government would find ways to cover up the matter. This was the nature of the government, and Frank had experienced it before.

"At least we should give it a try, Boss." Peter answered on behalf of Jason while uploading the video on his computer. "It would be good if we could let more people know the truth of the matter."

Jason stared at the screen. Although he had guessed the result long ago, he still couldn't help feeling disappointed. Never pin your hopes on politicians suddenly awakening their conscience.
