Throughout Sunday, Zara spent most of her day in bed—eating, drugs, just resting and recovering. The kids sometimes wandered into her room from time to time too. But they were careful enough not to disturb her. Too careful it made Zara laugh.
Later in the day, she received a call from Nathaniel, "Are you at home?"
Zara was skeptical, wondering if everything was alright, "Um, yeah."
"Okay, I'm on my way," He responded, ending the call before Zara could pose a question.
She walked in circles in the living room, arms folded tightly biting at the skin around her thumb. Her eyes darted to the door, then to the clock, then back again.
"Why did he sound so urgent? Did something go wrong again?"
Just then, she heard a car entering into the compound and shortly after, Nathaniel walked through the door.
But he didn't look worried at all. Instead, he looked relieved— until he saw the bandage wrapped around her head.
"What happened to you?" He asked worriedly.
