"I will be back soon to dress your wound before you get an infection," Genevieve answered softly and left with Isolde.
Edric's mind was racing with possibilities as he suspected the Queen Dowager might be involved in the assassination attempt. His mother was capable of that, but he needed proof.
They walked to the side of the building, and Edric confronted her.
"I know you're binding something, Mother. Tell me what I need to hear."
"What do you need to hear? Hiding something? When did you start taking in parables?"
"Tell me the truth about the assassination attempt."
The Queen's expression turned icy. "I am stunned you'd question my loyalty, Edric. I am your mother after all."
"You'd earn the loyalty, mother. I know the incident that happened tonight was not a coincidence, and I am not convinced you are on my side." He said firmly.
Her gaze faltered for an instant. Edric saw a flash of outrage, but she changed her expression immediately, and she smiled at him broadly.
