Chapter 136 - He Wished She Wasn't

"No, I'm not," Orion replied quickly, jaw tight.

"Yes, you are," the wolf said smoothly. A pause, then, "Have you forgotten I'm in your head?"

Orion exhaled, long and slow, dragging a hand through his still-damp hair. He hated how easily the wolf poked at the thoughts he didn't even want to acknowledge himself.

"And you got jealous. Why?"

His boots crunched lightly on the forest floor as he walked, filtered sunlight streaking through the canopy above. He clenched his jaw and tilted his face toward the dappled light, hoping the sun could burn away the rising discomfort in his chest. He didn't want to answer. Didn't even know how to answer.

Maybe it was the way Megan looked at him— with that strange, fragile blend of fear and care. Or the way her voice, quiet and steady, seemed to calm the storm in his mind. Maybe it was how she'd seen something in him worth keeping alive… when she could've just walked away.
