Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Different power classes

The shrill ring of the lunch bell echoed through the room like salvation.

A collective cheer burst out from the back rows.

"Yes! It's over!"

"Lunch time!"

Even Akari had stood up, grabbing her bag. Her mood brightened at the idea of getting away from that girl for even a moment.

But Saya remained seated on the teacher's chair, her arms crossed, a sly grin crawling across her lips.

She slowly raised one hand, then clapped.

Once.

Loud enough to silence the entire classroom.

"Yeah... no. I dismiss you. Not the bell," she said sweetly.

The students froze, looking at her stupidity to the point where she almost laughed.

"B-But Sensei…" someone dared to mumble. None of them wanted to continue the lesson.

I mean, who would want to have classes while everyone else is eating outside?

"Aww, really? So what if it's lunch time?" Saya tilted her head. Her expression darkened slightly. "What are you gonna do about it? Run? Hmph. You can try."

From the front row, the speedster Kio gave a cheeky grin. "No offense, Sensei, but you can't stop me—"

The second he dashed for the door, time itself seemed to pause.

Before he could even touch the handle, a bang echoed. Saya's foot slammed against the door.

Kio fell on his butt in shock. His speed failed him.

Akari rolled her eyes. The other students sat down with dejected expressions on their faces.

Saya strolled back to her desk casually and sat on her chair with her legs on top of the desk. "Since you're all eager to escape, I suggest hurrying up with your presentation of your abilities, no?"

Kio ran back to his seat. The room went quiet again.

"Next~"

One by one, the students came forward, displaying their abilities.

A boy named Rail summoned chains from his palms.

A girl named Isha floated above the ground in a meditation pose with glowing golden light.

Another girl, Aya, conjured spectral birds made of purple flames.

Saya offered lazy claps, funny compliments, and the occasional flirty smirk that made the students either blush or laugh.

After a few minutes, they had mostly finished with everyone.

"Alright, alright, let's not drag this out too long. I'm sure you all think your abilities are sooo impressive," she said, voice dripping with sarcasm.

"But let's be honest, most of you could hardly count as D Class," she said lazily.

"Sensei," Lucien Grail raised his hand, "Could you explain what these 'classes' mean? Are they based on our strength?"

"Ah, finally a useful question." Saya smiled.

"Alright, gremlins, listen up." Saya stood up as she stretched her arms. She then started on the board behind her.

"First, we start with F Class, also called the Initial Class. Initial Class humans are new awakened humans. They are more powerful than normal humans. The strongest ones can destroy an entire street with full power. As for the average ones, they can lift cars and houses, or destroy them."

"A lot of you are at this level—truly pathetic—but it's alright. Now let's go to E Class, also known as the Novice Class. The strongest ones can level up an entire block in a city. Not bad indeed," Saya said lazily while writing more classes on the table.

The students listened attentively because this information would help them survive the upcoming apocalypse and potentially make their future careers rise.

Akari was stunned. The moment Saya started writing on the board, her entire aura changed.

Although she still looked lazy, there was now a solemn yet ancient aura around her.

Why didn't anyone tell her that the bloodthirsty Warden of Pride was capable of teaching students?

"Then there's D Class... If you've reached this level, then well done. This will be a bottleneck that most of you won't pass in your lifetime." Saya shook her head in pity.

D Class was also known as the Combat Class. Its destruction scale is skyscraper level. It's a powerful class that most humans stop at.

Due to their talent being low, they can't pass D Class—and even if they did, it would take hundreds of years.

And to top it off, humans don't even have a long lifespan. Reaching this level while you're still young takes real talent.

"As for C Class, it's called the Elite Class. The Elite Class gives Awakeners enough power to destroy a town. They are truly terrifying. The ancient races back then couldn't break through the Elite Class and reach the Advanced Class—B Class."

"Wait, Sensei, can you tell us more about the ancient races and their strength?" Lucien asked once more.

"Of course."

"In the past, humans used to be at the bottom of the food chain. Earth was home to different types of races—elves, dragons, dwarves, and so many more mythical beings from a fantasy world that existed hundreds of thousands of years ago."

"They suppressed the humans countless times, yet the humans endured. The only thing that kept them alive was their intelligence. Humans are gifted with intelligence that the other races could never surpass."

"The ancient races had abilities, but humans did not."

"They used schemes and strategies to live even in such a harsh world. Then suddenly, their era of change came."

"The first catastrophic disaster of a monster appeared, called Tythorr, the Eclipsed Calamity. It ravaged through the planet, bringing terror and despair. The ancient races sent millions of warriors to fight against such a catastrophe."

"The result was a complete one-sided slaughter of the lifeforms that dared to approach."

"Their abilities barely hurt that nightmare."

"That's when the Goddess of Light appeared—also known as the Sovereign of Light, Akari Hartville."

(Saya smirked knowingly at Akari, who pretended not to notice.)

"She fought against that catastrophe for half a year before finally defeating it. She died in the process."

"What was left of that battle was corpses—and the core of Tythorr, the Eclipsed Calamity, the bringer of destruction."

"This world met its first destruction, as the apocalypse welcomed Earth with impending doom."
