Chapter 223 - Chapter 223: Intense Battle!

Finn's body was shaken, forcing him to stagger back three or four steps before regaining his balance.

There was a grim look on his face. The strength of this demon—Mara—was truly extraordinary. Any other lower-tier demon would have already been crushed beneath Finn's assault.

"Hmph, an insect like you dares to challenge my dominion? Die!"

Mara snarled, slamming a foot against the ground. In a blur of ghostlike speed, he lunged at Finn, stretching out his left hand to seize Finn's neck.

Schk!

Mara's fingernails elongated like obsidian blades, gleaming with a deadly chill, sharp enough to pierce through vibranium.

"Get lost!"

Finn's eyes narrowed. With a swift flick of his arm, his longblade spun through the air, flashing with cold steel as it aimed straight for Mara's chest.

"What!?"

Mara's expression darkened with shock. He barely twisted away in time, narrowly avoiding the fatal blow.

Clang!

Finn's sword plunged into the stone floor, sending chunks of debris flying in all directions.

"Heh, is that the best you can do?"

Mara sneered, mockery in his eyes. "We demons are the apex of creation. Each of us wields power that defies comprehension. You can't hurt me. You can only die screaming."

"Yeah?"

Finn stared coldly at Mara, a strange grin curving his lips.

Whoosh!

Without warning, he leaped high into the air, his hands forming a complex sigil. An arcane surge shimmered in the air, crackling with ominous force.

Rumble!

Dozens of shimmering sword projections formed midair, glowing with a radiant blue hue. They surged toward Mara like a storm, sealing off all avenues of escape.

"What in the hell?"

Mara's face shifted. He braced himself, raising his arms. A wave of eldritch flame erupted from his body, forming a blazing shield against the incoming blade storm.

BOOM!

The two forces collided with a deafening crash. Fiery plumes exploded outward as the ground splintered beneath them.

Yet, despite the overwhelming barrage, Mara's defenses held. It was as though his body was wrapped in uru-forged armor—dense, impenetrable.

"No wonder the demon race is feared. Your body really is a fortress," Finn muttered. "But if you think that's all it takes to win, you're dead wrong."

His eyes gleamed. He surged forward again, dashing several meters in a blur, his sword plunging toward Mara's abdomen.

"How is he this fast?!"

Mara's pupils contracted. He could barely react in time. The blade grazed his abdomen, slicing through his robes and leaving a shallow, but humiliating, wound.

"Human scum! I will rip you apart!"

Mara growled, retreating to create distance, rage igniting in his glowing crimson eyes.

"Hahaha."

Finn laughed, head tilted back, eyes burning with icy murder. "Didn't you say demons were superior? Why can't you handle a single attack from me?"

"You've gone too far!"

Mara roared. His fury surged, bathing his body in hellfire.

"The demon race may have eternal flesh, but you're not invincible," Finn said coldly. "You all have weaknesses. Once I find it, you're finished."

Whoosh!

Finn darted forward like a streak of lightning, sword flaring like a pack of starved wolves slashing toward Mara.

"You think I'll fall for the same trick?"

Mara scowled. He knew his weak points now.

He shifted to the side, avoiding the strike.

Slash!

The sword missed and carved a deep scar across the ground.

Seizing the opportunity, Mara grabbed the hilt of Finn's lodged blade. With a snarl, he yanked it free and swung at Finn's shoulder.

"Foolish demon."

Finn's gaze darkened. He vanished in an instant and reappeared behind Mara, whipping out a brutal kick.

"Wha—?!"

Sensing danger, Mara turned to block, but Finn's kick landed with bone-shattering force. Mara's arm bent grotesquely as he was launched back, crashing to the floor in a heap.

"How does he have this much strength?"

Mara was stunned. Finn's aura wasn't as intense as his own, yet he couldn't withstand Finn's blows.

He could crush most angelic hosts like the ones from the Celestial Choir without much effort.

But Finn? Finn was different. Stronger. Faster. Unpredictable.

"This can't go on," Mara thought. "If I don't end him soon, he'll be the end of me."

Drawing a deep breath, Mara centered himself. Flames erupted around him, his massive wings unfurling wide.

He looked like one of Mephisto's elite lieutenants.

ROAR!

He lunged like a feral beast, eyes blood-red, claws out, every intent to tear Finn to shreds.

"Looks like there are still high-level monsters in the demon realm," Finn murmured, eyes narrowing.

He recalled what the elder of the Ancient Order told him: demon bodies are formidable, forged in the Abyss, layered with magical fortification. That's why even the mightiest warriors struggled.

"But they're not invincible. Everything has a limit."

Finn shot forward like a streak of starlight.

"Try this next!"

He clenched his right hand, charging it with ruthless energy. Murderous intent coiled around him like a storm. He swung for Mara's face.

"Pathetic."

Mara sneered, gathering fire in his palm. An orb of destructive flame burst forth.

Boom!

The fireball clashed with Finn's fist, releasing a shockwave of flame and sparks.

"Damn!"

Finn growled, swinging his sword in a flash of silver. The blade arced toward Mara's skull.

Mara ducked and countered, five clawed fingers striking toward Finn's throat.

Finn sidestepped smoothly.

Swish!

He rebounded off the wall with both feet, hurtling toward Mara.

"Tch!"

Mara slapped a palm toward Finn like a collapsing mountain.

"Move!"

Finn crossed his arms, powering up and launching both arms outward.

Boom!

The collision sent both of them flying backward. For a moment, they were evenly matched.

"This human... he's not normal. He withstood my full force attack."

Mara stood, glaring. Finn shouldn't be this strong. His aura didn't match his power.

Still, Finn hadn't faltered.

Swish!

Finn straightened, smirking.

"If we keep this up, you're going to die. Submit, and I'll leave you a corpse worth burying."

Mara trembled with fury.

"You arrogant trash! I'm Mara—King of the Infernal Legions! You think I'll kneel?!"

He could barely contain his rage. As one of the highest-ranking demons under Mephisto himself, he had never once tasted humiliation.

He wanted nothing more than to tear Finn limb from limb, to peel the skin from his bones, to savor every scream.

BOOM!

Suddenly, a veil of black mist erupted from Mara's body, spreading across the sky like a cursed shroud.
