Cael stood by the car, muscles tensed, eyes narrowed on the now-vanished black SUV that had torn down the street like its tail was on fire. He was frozen for a moment, caught between instinct and logic; between chasing it down and staying here where Elisa was. The internal war waged hot and fast, but practicality won.
Barefoot. Half-naked. Sweatpants that barely fit. Not exactly the ideal state to go gallivanting after suspicious vehicles. He hissed through his teeth, frustrated, dragging a hand through his hair.
But the SUV... it wasn't random. He knew it wasn't. His gut said so. And Cael had learned long ago never to ignore his instincts.
He sniffed the air, scanning for any scent that didn't belong, any hiding wolves.
Nothing.
Just Raven's scent and Elisa's floral one. The rest were humans. No unknown wolf, no foreign presence. The car hadn't been here long.
But then, how the hell had whoever it was tracked them that far out in the woods?
