The morning sun streamed through the high glass windows of Cael's office, bathing the room in a soft, clean light. But he barely noticed it. He sat at his desk, staring at his phone with a furrow between his brows.
A missed call.

Late last night.
He hadn't seen it till now, and a cold thread of unease wove through his chest. They had parted ways in the evening, nothing odd or concerning between them. So why would she call so late?
He tapped the screen and dialed her back.
No answer.
He waited a moment, thumb hovering, debating whether to try again. But logic nudged his instincts back into their cage, he didn't want to be more overbearing, especially after last night. She is probably getting ready for work right now. It wasn't like they were officially anything. He had no claim. No reason to feel this on edge.
He set the phone down and tried to focus on the financial reports in front of him. It wasn't working.
