The black SUV pulled up in front of the pack house as the sun began to dip toward the horizon. Cael was already outside, standing by the stone steps, arms crossed, drawing wary glances from passing pack members. No one dared ask why their Alpha was outside waiting, but they gave him a wide berth.
Elisa blinked in surprise as she stepped out of the car. "You sent a guard to pick me up?"
Cael nodded once. "I've had a weird feeling all day. About you."
Her eyes softened, even as her brows furrowed. "Cael…"
"I just wanted to make sure you got home safe," he said. "That's all."
She frowned slightly, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "You didn't have to do that."
They walked side by side through the gravel path that led to the garden behind the pack house. Evening shadows lengthened over the trimmed hedges and blooming violets. The air was cooler here, and quieter.
