Chapter 15 - Descent into the Core

Location: Beneath Timeless High — Sublevel Z, Lux Core Chamber.

The air was electric—literally. Sparks crackled from the walls of the hidden sublevel, lighting the dark corridor with flickers of gold and blue. Ancient tech lined the tunnel—gears turning with no engine, cables pulsing like veins.

Kaiya stared ahead, her heart pounding. "This place… it's alive."

Nova nodded grimly. "It's not just controlling time. It's feeding off of it. Every memory, every rewrite, every broken version of us—it's all stored down here."

They reached a set of doors. Cold, matte black. No handles. Just a screen glowing with four names:

Kaiya. Liam. Adrien. Dylan.

"It needs all four of us to open it," Nova whispered. "Even Dylan."

Kaiya stepped forward and placed her hand on her name. Liam and Adrien followed.

Nova placed hers over Dylan's.

For a second… nothing.

Then—WHOOM!

The doors slid open with a seismic groan, revealing a massive chamber. Floating above a glowing pool of memory data was the Lux Core—a golden sphere made of gears, light, and glass panels spinning at impossible angles.

And standing beneath it was…

Dylan.

But something was off. His body was flickering. Not corrupted—fractured.

"I didn't know it would do this," he said, voice strained. "Lux promised control. But it just… rewrote me. Again and again until I didn't know what version I was anymore."

Kaiya took a cautious step forward. "Then shut it down with us. We still can."

He looked up. "I can't. I am part of the Core now. I'm the final failsafe. If you destroy it… I vanish. Forever."

The silence was deafening.

Nova looked at Kaiya. "This is your choice. You can save him… or save the world."

Liam's voice cracked. "Kaiya, we don't have time—"

Adrien unsheathed his sword. "He chose this path."

Kaiya closed her eyes. Memories flashed—of laughing with Dylan in the library, of time loops, of betrayal, of hope.

She stepped forward. "I'm sorry."

Tears welled in Dylan's eyes. "I wish I could've been better."

"You were… once."

She reached for the Core. Her fingers hovered over its heart. A whisper echoed through the chamber:

> "Rewrite complete. Erase or retain?"

Kaiya breathed deeply—then made her choice.

The Core burst with light.
