"And the Chamber of Secrets?"

"No idea. It was never mentioned when we were students."

"The writing on the wall posed an implied threat, but who is the heir it mentioned?" Severus asked, tapping his fingers on the table. "Is he or she doing the petrification or is it a creature of some sort?"

"The only creatures I'm aware of that can petrify their victims are a Basilisk which as you probably recall was created by a dark wizard in ancient Greece, Herpo the Foul by incubating a chicken's egg under a toad. If a person looks directly at its gaze, they die, but if they see a reflection of its gaze; it will petrify them. A Cockatrice can also petrify with its gaze, but they are rare and may even be extinct by now."

"I remember that from defense," Severus nodded. "A Basilisk can live for thousands of years as I recall and I know as a potion master that their venom is extremely hard to find and very expensive."

"Yes, because there may only be two or three still alive in Greece or on one of its islands," Remus agreed. "Nobody really knows for sure although I believe the Ministry did keep track of them at one time."

"It may be nothing to worry about, but I think everybody should be careful just in case."

Everyone was looking forward to the first Quidditch match, Slytherin versus Gryffindor at the end of November. Harry had not heard the voice since Halloween and he was planning to tell his dad, mum or Professor Lupin whichever one he saw first if he did.

The run up to the match saw Gryffindor and Slytherin students hexing each other with Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws sometimes getting caught in the middle. After Severus reversed his third pair of antlers on the Quidditch team, he decided to call a meeting of the heads of house to see if they could work together to put a halt to the hexing. Consequently, they decided to have all the students meeting in the Great Hall. It was held after dinner the Monday before the Slytherin/Gryffindor match on Saturday.

Dumbledore came into the hall too. He looked around him in consternation. "I wasn't aware of any meetings of the entire school."

"We're having a meeting due to all the hexing that's been going on prior to the match this weekend," Minerva explained.

"Well, be sure the Slytherins know they will receive detention if they continue hexing the other students," Albus replied.

"It's not just Slytherin, Headmaster," Severus pointed out. "The Gryffindors have been doing their share of the hexing too."

"The Gryffindors are just protecting themselves so make sure the Slytherins are given detention," Albus said, leaving the Great Hall.

Draco looked at Theo and Millie both who looked completely dumbfounded. "We can't even defend ourselves against the Gryffindors when they're bullying us?" Millie asked.

"Don't worry, Millie. Uncle Severus knows what's going on and he won't give us detention unless we start it," Draco whispered.

Minerva got up. "The reason we called you all together is to stop this ridiculous hexing of each other. With the exception of the first years, you should all know by now that your academic performance counts just as much towards winning the House Cup so even if one house wins every Quidditch Match, they could still lose the Cup."

"I do not want to see and I am sure Madam Pomfrey agrees with me on this, anymore students sporting antlers, dragging too long arms, or with enlarged heads. I want all Quidditch team members to remember that good sportsmanship is more important than winning," Severus added.

"If you see anybody hexing anyone else, report them to a Prefect or to a professor immediately. Do not try and stop them yourself," Filius said.

Pomona nodded. "Do not use the Quidditch matches as an excuse to bully students in other houses because Professor McGonagall does have the authority to cancel any or all matches."

"Everybody is to be treated fairly and with respect. Anybody who indulges in any sort of bullying or threatening behavior will be given detention, will not be able to attend the match, or visit Hogsmeade. As Professor Sprout pointed out; I do have the authority to cancel a match and I will exercise that option if things continue on their current path."

The students were dismissed to go back to common rooms or the library. Harry stopped Severus. "Can I talk to you, Dad?"

"Certainly, Harry. Do you want to come to our quarters or talk here?"

"I think we should go to our quarters," Harry said.

Once they were inside Severus turned to Harry and asked, "Have you heard the voice again?"

Harry shook his head. "Not since Halloween, but what I wanted to tell you was that in my research, the only things I could find that petrifies its victims is a Basilisk or a Cockatrice and that's only if they see its reflection otherwise its gaze kills them."

Severus nodded. "Yes, Remus said the same thing, but he said he thought there might be a least three Basilisks left in Greece because Herpo the Foul who originally created them was a Greek Dark Wizard. I don't know if there are any Cockatrices still in existence. Remus said they may be extinct."

"So whatever petrified Mrs. Norris is still an unknown entity," Harry replied.

"Yes, but the good thing is that there have not been any other attacks of any kind and as soon as the Mandrakes are ready, Mrs. Norris will be returned to normal."

Harry made a face. "I hated potting those things. They were screaming, wiggling around, and refused to go into their pots without a fight!"

"I did not care much for them myself," Severus admitted. He remembered how Potter and Black attempted to pull his ear muffs off so he would faint and they would have something else to bully him about.
