Cherreads

Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 - Halloween Assassination Again

The cheer and excitement were in the air as the ghosts were more active inside the castle. For the day known as Halloween is upon them. Which originally many believed the dead would return for the day and those that died during the year will journey to the afterlife. It is also a day divination that was popular as many believed such days were more accurate to get a reading.

Sitting in the Great Hall for breakfast, Felix sat in his normal Hogwarts robes much like other students. No one really dressed up outside a few pins on their hats or outer robes and made him sad. There were classes and most teachers tended to be strict in the dress code.

"What are you doing with a small crystal ball?" Angel asked.

"Fortune telling." Felix replied. "I am doing fortune telling for the day. Back in the day, this day was believed to be a great day to do divination. So I can earn a bit of money."

"Are you a seer?" John asked.

Felix blinked at him wondering why he asked such a question, but soon thought of it. Outside of his father William and Albus Dumbledore, he never really told anyone. While there was some suspicion of him being one, it hasn't been confirmed. Even when he used the crystal ball in front of Lily and her friends, he told them a method that would work even for non-seers.

"Not all divination requires the talent of a seer." Felix replied as his eyes shifted.

'Suspicious.' John and Angel thought as they grinned.

"Really?" Angel asked. "Then can you teach us a method?"

Felix thought for a moment before he nodded. His mind began to brush over a few simple tricks since he didn't have many props on hand. Until he landed on one and pulled out a small and simple looking topaz necklace.

"Hold this in your hand and keep your hand steady. The necklace needs to hold still before you begin." Felix handed it out before him.

Neither of the two took it from him for a moment before Angel reached out and took it into her hand. Following Felix's words she held out her arm and waited for the necklace stopped swaying and become still.

"Now you need to ask a question seven times. It will only answer yes and no question and depending on how strong it will spin either clockwise or counter. If it is counter it means no while clockwise means yes." Felix explained. "While it is a useful method it also can be tricked. So completely relying on it is ill advised."

"What should I ask?" Angel asked as her arm began to feel a bit tired.

"Why not if this orange juice tastes good this morning or not." Felix shrugged, handing over his cup.

Angel closed her eyes and began to speak. For seven times in a row she asked if this orange juice tasted good. However, when she opened her eyes the necklace was spinning counter clockwise very violently. Which confused them all since this shouldn't be the case or react violently.

Pulling out a strip of parchment and casted a simple charm on it. Felix then lightly dipped it into his drink and watched as the parchment wrote a simple line. A line that greatly shocked them, while also not surprising for only two words were written on it.

Highly Poisonous.

"It seems someone tried to assassinate you again." John looked at his friend.

"My orange juice." Felix cried sadly.

Somewhere along the lines, Felix began not to care as much each time someone tried to assassinate him. Among the four odd times over the course of a year, he grew accustomed to it. Now seeing his perfectly good orange juice going to waste, it saddens him.

"I think you should be more worried about the poison than your drink, Felix." Angel slapped the table.

"Fine." Felix just shrugged.

In the end, they handed off the cup to Professor McGonagall who went on a rampage. After a few hours of searching, no culprit was found.

--

"Felix, I am starting to lose faith in this school being called the safest place." Angel muttered after their last class of the day.

"It is pretty safe though." Felix replied. "I mean only a few get targeted or have dangerous accidents each year, while the others are pretty safe."

"Still what kind of poison was it? Surely knowing it will help track down the one trying to kill you this time." John asked with a roll of his eyes.

"It's just Basilisk Venom and a young one. Best guess it is between three to ten years old." Felix answered.

Due to the assassination attempt, Dumbledore called him to his office. While there they studied the cup and Felix used his Paths ability to look at the cup. It was during which he discovered the poison and uses for it, which is how he discovered about the age range of the Basilisk.

"What's a Basilisk?" Angel asked.

"I don't know." John shook his head as he didn't know either.

Both of them were only twelve years old, so it was only natural they didn't know what a Basilisk is. This world held various magical creatures and due to being illegal and the various ministries wanting to keep various dark wizards and witches from hatching them. There is only a limited amount of knowledge about them with the most being in Newton Scamander Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

"A very deadly snake that can look with its gaze. The venom is one of nature's deadliest poisons in the world where the phoenix tears is one of the only few cures. Not a lot is known about them due to them being illegal, but once in a while the Ministries around the world will find some trying to hatch them." Felix explained. "They have a long lifespan with Herpo the Foul Basilisk, the one who discovered the hatching method, is said to have lived around nine hundred years."

"Seriously!" John said.

"What are the other ways to cure the venom?" Angel asked.

"Detoxification and Cure All Potions that require a heap of very rare or legendary materials to be used in the process of making it. There is a higher chance of having a phoenix tear than collecting all these ingredients."

"Oh." Angel clearly didn't know what to say.

Walking through the hall, neither John or Angel seemed to know what they wanted to say. It suited Felix just fine since he didn't really want to continue talking. Instead he became more curious if it was Voldemort who sent it to him or some other wizard or witch. Surely Voldemort wouldn't want to reveal that he was raising a Basilisk.

Even if he were raising one, it wouldn't matter either. The man was a mad man and adding it to his list of crimes is just another drop in the bucket. So, Felix didn't think that it was Voldemort this time since there were no reports about him having a Basilisk.

'Well, even if it is not you, Tom, you will have to feel the pain. The pain of my revenge for my orange juice being wasted.' Felix thought.

How he will do it, he didn't know it quite yet. The thought of doing something about the Horcruxes has crossed his mind, but he can't do anything about it anytime soon. If he tried to do the magic he had planned, he would most likely blow up the area due to failing in casting. It was a very complex piece of magic and even Albus Dumbledore would struggle.

"So, Felix, I have a question for you." Angel asked.

"I may hold an answer." Felix replied.

"Do you know the spell to check if someone is an animagus? I have the feeling my brother is one, but every time I ask he shifts the topic."

"Hmm, sure. It's a fairly simple spell." Felix nodded.

"Thanks." Angel smiled.
