Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 - Felix’s Disappointment

Tossing and turning on his bed, Felix eyes were shut tight as sweat covered as painful expressions came and went. Then his blue eyes shot open as he sat up taking deep breaths as he held his head in his hand. His blonde hair falling messily around his head as a hollowed look filled his eyes before it cleared up.

Then his eyes turned to disappointment for he realized he didn't dream but began to see clips of the future. A future he tried to steer away from, but recently began to learn he was the only one that wanted it.

In the glimpse of the future, he watched as Severus Snape broke their agreement as he still socialized with Death Eater Recruiters. Their laughter at his apparent stupidity of giving out precious potion recipes. Afterward, he watched as Snape went under the whopping willow to be saved by James Potter. The bitter hatred at that, before seeing Severus Snape taking the mark, sending Voldemort to kill the Potter's and his betrayal to the Dark Lord after he falls.

The only difference he saw between this and from the series is the lack of a prophecy. If that prophecy is still in place or not, he doesn't know. Felix only felt a great sense of disappointment in Severus Snape.

Rubbing his forehead, Felix wanted to laugh but only felt the wet trails left behind by his silent tears. Pulling his knees up to his chest, Felix rested his head on them as he curled up as he looked out at the moon in the night sky.

"I guess I have to rewrite the list for Snape." Felix murmured to himself.

He was going to give him more advanced potions, but upon seeing those clips. Felix needed to verify them and if they are true. Then he can only continue to give junk level potions that still look amazing, but were tasteless in his opinion.

'In various works, many helped Severus Snape out of his bitterness and man-child tendencies. Yet why when I try to help, he is determined to follow this path to the end.' Felix wondered to himself.

While sadness at being unable to help and blaming himself a bit for his failure. Felix just watched the moon for the next while. This wasn't the first time he felt this way, since in his previous life it was much the same. While he didn't have knowledge about others, he still tried to help only to end up with a similar result as this.

Once he felt a bit better, Felix soon laid back down and closed his eyes to sleep once more. He held a busy day ahead and needed to have proper sleep.

After getting out of the last class for the day before Christmas Break. Felix went to the classroom before picking up his automatic chain for the communication watches. He had finally finished building it and enchanting it so he could begin testing it.

"Why are we taking it to Hagrid's hut?" John asked.

While carrying part of the various arms, John is the only one helping Felix test it. Angel wanted to help, but got in trouble for beating up Gilderoy Lockhart. During Charm's Class, Gilderoy was attempting to boast and Angel, who ended up being the target, directly threw the cheering charm on him, making him laugh hysterically.

Professor Flitwick was disappointed and happy for Angel who casted a Third Year spell despite only being in her second year. So he asked her to stay behind and help him with grading some papers as punishment. No points or detentions were mentioned, so Angel wasn't in much trouble for her actions.

"The reason is simple. If this explodes it is safer outdoors then indoors." Felix explained to John.

"Th-this might explode?" John said, shocked.

"Of course. When magic isn't used properly, it can be quite dangerous and explosions are often the byproduct." Felix answered. "Due to this being my first larger and multipart project, the chances of failure and larger explosion is naturally higher."

"But I haven't seen you fail before." John muttered. "Well, if sense of direction isn't counted."

"I am only human and have made many failures." Felix replied.

"Great, I just cleared the patch of ground like you asked." Suddenly Hagrid's cheerful booming voice called from not far away.

Upon seeing the half giant who was taller than two men and pretty round in his moleskin coat. Felix noticed behind the large man was another one in colorful robes and had a silvery beard. A kind smile seemed to come from the man as he looked through his half moon glasses.

"Headmaster Dumbledore," John blinked at Dumbledore.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Bell." Dumbledore smiled kindly.

"What brings you out here in the cold weather?" Felix asked.

"I saw Hagrid here clear an area and grew curious. That is when I learned you were preparing to test another idea of yours and decided to join in the fun." Dumbledore smiled.

Felix didn't seem to mind as he began to arrange everything. He also began to do a last minute check to make sure everything is still in order. Nodding, Felix asked Hagrid to move a log over and placed it into the first alchemy circle. Quickly making a slight adjustment to the placement and nodded. Once everything was in place, Felix alongside John, Hagrid and Dumbledore took a step back.

Under their eyes they began to watch the log rapidly turn black as smoke began to emit from them. The first circle is used to turn the log into charcoal where it is done within a few seconds. Then under their eyes, an arm reached over and picked it up and pulled it towards the next circle.

From one circle to another, the log quickly turned into a diamond and soon placed into a watch. Everything was working perfectly until the last step came along where the magic was placed onto it. Suddenly from behind a spell flew over and hit the circle which caused it to explode.

Frozen at the sight of his entire chain following up in the explosion, Felix stood there stunned. His month of hard work was gone in a blink of an eye. A mixture of emotions rushed through him as he turned his head to see not only his four roommates but Gilderoy Lockhart laughing.

In Lenny's hand was his wand that pointed to the machine. Anger surged as his patience ran out and he felt like the Hospital Wing was too empty lately. These five fools had luckily just volunteered to fill it.

Rolling up his sleeves, Felix was ready to rush over and pulled out his wand. Yet, before he could get a few steps his feet seemed to move, but he didn't as his height rapidly increased.

"Calm down." Hagrid said with a hint of anger in his voice.

"No, I have had it. These five fools need to be taught a lesson. They should reflect by laying in the Hospital Wing for the entire Christmas Break, no for a month." Felix thrashed in the air. "I have tolerated the four long enough and now that idiot Lockhart is joining."

"It's ok, Felix." John tried to comfort.

"How is it ok?" Felix hung limp in as Hagrid held the back of his robe.

Small tears were in his eyes as the five ran away. He had put up with the unreasonable harassment for over a year. Now they had just destroyed his project, wasting not only his time but also nearly twenty galleons.

"They shall be punished." Dumbledore said without his usual cheerfulness.

Felix didn't have much hope in them being able to reflect all that much. They have been punished before but nothing has changed besides them upping their harassment. The last time they were punished, they said it was just their sacrifice to their goal.

--

After calming down and heading back into the castle, Felix sat in the classroom listless as he watched the fireplace. Inside a fire crackled as he just stared blankly at it as he reviewed his day. The disappointment in the morning and now having his automatic chain blown up.

"It's fine, Felix. I haven't seen the Headmaster so angry before. Surely those five will learn their lesson" John tried to comfort.

"I think you placed too much hope on them learning anything." Felix muttered.
