Chapter 145 - Helping Hands - Chapter 1

Azuri had taken the time to search the area as the others contemplated on what to do in the moment, as they'd lost two members of the party in such an unorthodox way. Looking at the rubble below and seeing no way of reaching the area below by traditional means.

"Those two are stuck down there…I hope they're okay…" Nolan said as he began to rub his hands through his own hair, trying to figure out what next steps to take as his worries only grew in the situation. Jarrett punched the cavern wall angrily considering he wasn't able to do anything in the situation. His mind traced back his last sight of the two starless students falling with the beast following after them. His eyes tensed as he grit his teeth.

"Dammit!" he yelled as his fist collided with the stony wall once more. Frustration had boiled over Jarrett as Azuri took a moment to inspect the situation.

"I wonder if there's any way to communicate with the mentors outside, or even just another group. Maybe they could help in the search for those two…losing two promising students would be rather troublesome…" she thought as she took a deep breath.

The two others moved towards her as they seemed to be collecting their thoughts, wondering what the next steps this could be.

"You two must be running low on mana right?"

"Well…I'd be lying if I said I had a surplus to go around."

"Who in the hell said anyone's running low!?" Jarrett yelled in response to Azuri's question, clearly frustrated by the words and his inability to do something in that moment.

Two members of their party were taken away in an instant, especially after all of the big talk before. He could do nothing but watch as they faded away in an instant from his sight. His fists gripped intensely as he looked to the ground in anger, not only at the situation, but himself.

"Those two starless are gonna get themselves killed…and we couldn't do a damn thing about it…!"

"Jarrett…"

"All of this…after I talked up such a big game too. This is the worst!"

Azuri moved swiftly as her hand swiped itself across his cheek in the moment, stunning Jarrett in the process. Nolan watched as he recoiled from such a reaction before questioning why she'd do such a thing.

"Blaming yourself won't fix the problem. We need to think with clear heads in moments like these…at least that's what he says."

'Wh-what are you talking about? You just hit me!"

"Yes, and I'll do it again if you don't stop and think for a moment."

"But–"

"N-no…she's right, Jarrett."

He looked back to see Nolan sitting on one of the rocks laying about on the floor. Seemingly pondering the situation after hearing Azuri's words. He placed his hand on the rock below him as he began to recall the events that took place in the moment. Memories of the fleeting attack flew through his mind clearly, with the last sight of the two falling into the chasm along with the beast.
