Chapter 115 - 115. Trigger and Heartbeat

"Ah, sorry. I was just too surprised by your question," Haisley said, biting her lower lip as she tried to hide the nervousness tightening in her chest.

Lucas merely stared at her with a blank expression, one eyebrow raised as if silently asking: Really?

"He was a friend from school," Haisley continued with an awkward smile. "We haven't spoken since graduation. I got busy with work, and he was busy with college. I honestly didn't expect we'd end up at the same university."

Lucas remained silent. His gaze was sharp and analytical, as if trying to read every corner of his wife's heart through the slightest movement and tone of her voice.

Haisley felt naked under that stare, exposed, deciphered, with nowhere to hide. "He's just a friend," she added softly, swallowing hard.

Lucas leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms, and said casually, "Why are you so nervous? Is there something wrong with that friendship?"
