"This pork rib soup is too bland," someone remarked.
"No, it's just meant to be lighter for a more delicate flavor," Emerald quickly tried to smooth things over.
"That won't do. Hold on, I'll add some salt."
Susie hurried into the kitchen, but before she could return, the sound of dishes crashing rang out.
Emerald instinctively moved to check, but Griffin stopped her just in time. "It's fine, I'll go take a look," he said.
Left alone in the dining room, Emerald and Alaric sat in silence. Though Alaric didn't say much, an unmistakable chill surrounded him, as if a layer of frost had settled over his presence.
Under the table, Emerald gently tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Is the food not to your liking? Teacher Susie might just be a little tired today."
Alaric stared at her for a long moment before finally muttering two words: "It's fine."
