As the two sat inside the tree, warming their bones on the fire, Shin started making a knapsack with the scrap leather they had left. They could use that to store meat, thankful it won't spoil in this hellish, frigid land.
After making the knapsack, Shin started working on weapons. He took the monster bones, shattered them to get sharp edges, and then wedged them into sticks, making two makeshift axes and a spear.
He gave Lilia the spear so she could have extended reach and stay at a relatively safe distance, and he took the two axes.
They waited a few hours after that and watched the city from afar. They wanted to see if monsters patrolled the outskirts.

Shin and Lilia didn't stay long inside the second tree. Soon they decided to start exploring the city's walls.
The ancient pale white stone walls were tall, rugged, and ruined. They didn't compare to the capital's walls, but they were bigger.
