Chapter 23 - Back to the beginning

The group was greeted by some of the staff as they re-entered the lounge through the portal. Cass and the other two decided it would be good to have everyone checked for injuries of any kind.

Although they knew everyone was fine and were strong individuals, they decided to make sure anyway; just in case.

Frost and some of the others who were involved in the fight stepped out to freshen up and change into cleaner clothes.

Frost walked up to a mirror in the restroom of his office, once there he checked his wounds, there was a cut on his jaw that was taking a little longer than usual to heal.

He rinsed his hands as he looked at himself in the mirror, there was a smile on his face as his eyes glowed for a second. He was happy to see his close friends had gotten stronger and were still growing, more so to see Dre had kept up with him after all this time.

He grabbed a nearby cup and rag, filling the cup he poured water over his head washing the blood from his hair. Then using the rag he washed his face, and dried it off. By the time he had finished the cut had completely healed.

Looking back up he could see two women sitting behind him watching and waiting.

"Heh, this has been a long time coming. You two gonna stand by my side one last time before we part ways?"

"It won't be the last time, young one. We will meet again on the otherside."

One of the woman gave a soft smile as she spoke in a soothing tone.

"You've come along way since the day we met, you'll be quite the trouble maker."

The other woman smiled at him warmly, he looked down at his hands and smiled back.

The lights began to flicker as they dimmed, turning around both women were gone and instead a man dressed in all black with dark eyes stood in their place.

"Talking to ghosts again I see."

A smile appeared on his pale face. Frost smiled back as he leaned back onto the counter and crossed his arms.

"You don't look too alive there yourself Enma. You come to see me off, or will you be joining us."

"I can't come with you... but that doesn't mean I won't be there. We'll find eachother at some point, we're destined to cross paths after all."

"That's a shame but I guess it'll have to do for now."

Frost stood up and walked over to the man, putting his hand out they shook and pulled one another in for a short hug.

"You know how to find me, or maybe I'll just find you."

With that the man smiled one last time before fading into darkness and disappearing, leaving Frost in the room alone; as the lights flickered turning back to normal.

"Short, sweet, and to the point..., what a guy. No goodbye..., just a see you later."

Smiling to himself he began walking to the door; when suddenly a knock came from the other side, causing him to flinch slightly; almost activating his power.

"Hey, when you're done talking to yourself, you mind joining the rest of the group."

Opening the door he could see that it was Dre on the otherside with a grin on his face. Walking down the hall they said nothing for a while, till Frost broke the silence.

"I wasn't talking to myself."

"I know, I was just messing with you. Enma huh, that's a rare sight."

"Yeah."

They continued silently for a while then, Frost told them of their short conversation. He found that Dre too had gotten a visit as well as a goodbye of sorts from his two companions.

Before walking into the room with the others they stopped for a moment:

"We've come a long way haven't we, I still remember the first time we met."

As Dre said this he recalled that moment, they had met under circumstances that seemed abnormal even for them at the time, but as time went on they realized that without that moment things might've ended up differently for the two.

"Yeah, you're just as stubborn now as you were then."

Frost lightly punched Dre on the shoulder as he said this; Which was returned with a smile.

Walking into the room, the others were no longer talking about the training session and instead were laughing, making jokes and getting along really well.

Soul was even making jokes about Caster putting on a smile under his mask causing everyone to laugh. Although Cass was mainly there for work at the time he too was enjoying the company of the others; so much so that he had even taken off his mask brandishing a warm smile from his scarred lips, and soon his two companions followed suit.

The two smiled at the scene, it hadn't even been a day and everyone was already acting like one happy family, it warmed their hearts.

The two happily joined the group in their conversations, they talked about many things. Their lives, the things they had gone through in their journeys to power, some even decided to show a few tricks or items they had gotten during their journey.

This went on for a while; with Frost letting them enjoy themselves before getting down to what they had come here for. Then when he was ready, he got their attention and waited for them to quiet down.

"Well now that everything's done and over with, it's time we talk about the reason we're here."

"We're here to discuss what to do after getting the key, the divine realm is a place we've all been many times. But this time is different, we'll be there uninvited, and I'm sure they already know we're coming.

They listened carefully as they spoke, Dre chimed in; deciding it would be better if they both explained just in case one missed something.

"Correct, but I'd also like to explain something else. Earlier I told Sirius during our training that when it comes down to it he will have to choose between us and them.

That much is true for all of you as well. Some of you might not know it but Dre and I are different from you all, in more ways than one. The main reason being that we are what is called Daemons."

Nima's ears perked up at the word, as he thought about it he realized that these two were whom Uriel spoke of, but it also made him wonder why such a thing would even matter.

"You see there was some conflict between us and them in the past, that starting with their dislike for outsiders whom attained their own power and reached their level without their help.

It may seem like a stupid reason now but back then it was different, the humans seeked power through any means necessary, that even included killing so called gods or those who sought to help the world and its people."

Everyone looked around at eachother, each shocked by the information given to them, they hadn't known the history of the world and to find out that the one's before them were vicious enough to kill those who sought to protect them.

"With the constant war being set out between the two sides one such being from the divine realm cursed the Daemons with their dying breath, which to this day is still in affect.

This almost resulted in the full extinction of Daemons as a whole, and the sealing of our world from theirs completely."

His words rang heavily in their ears as he spoke, they listened intently as Dre decided to chime in:

"In a few days we will break that disconnect, by going into the divine realm using they key to reach Kaden. Once there we will probably be met by a welcoming party, from there it is up to you all to decide what to do. If peace is not an option you all will have a way out, as for the two of us we will have no choice but to take out any who seek to stop us."

He could see the wheels turning as the others thought about everything, their lives would become something different entirely once they step foot through that gate, so he understood this was not something that could be decided in the span of one day.

The mission and trip being set a few days from now was a move decided by the both of them; as a way to give the group time to process everything.

In the end Frost smiled as he looked at them all, he had no regrets in this life and if they decided following him wasn't what they wanted then he wouldn't hold it against them.

"Anyway now that were done discussing business, how about I become the old man of the group for a moment."

Their ears perked up, they wondered what he could mean by that.

"How about I tell you all a story, aye, but not just any old sappy story. No, this one is about how I learned to harness my power and grow to become a so called king of this world. Trust me it wasn't an easy life to say the least but it was fun. I guess the best way to start... is from the beginning."
