Helen's POV
The rogues were now retreating, and the battlefield had become silent. My heart was still racing, though, from the elder's offer rather than the struggle. His silver hair gleamed in the moonlight as he stood in front of me. Leoric was his name, and I felt shivering just being around him.
"I am Leoric," he declared in a composed yet forceful voice. For millennia, I have guarded your lineage, anticipating the person who would carry on your current level of strength. You are that individual, Helen.
I looked at him, trying to make sense of it. "Why me? This power is not what I want. I have no control over it at all!
Leoric's gaze grew softer. That's the reason I'm here. To instruct you. But be aware that there is a cost associated with realizing your greatest potential.
"A cost?" I scowled, uncomfortable. "What is the price?"
