Lia laughed breathily, brushing his worry off with ease. "It's okay, Ray. I just twisted my ankle a little. I was walking out of the studio to get better network coverage to talk to you. Silly me, right?"
She sounded sweet. Soft. Innocent.
And then she added, like an afterthought, "Oh… and I'm really sorry I missed the date you planned tonight. I forgot completely. You don't mind, right?" Her voice dropped into a pouty tone, the kind that always made him melt.
Rayan closed his eyes and sighed. "Alright. Just… take care. Okay?" He ended the call with a quiet beep and placed the phone back on the table.
He didn't notice the silence behind her line.
Or the lack of background noise that should've come from a busy shoot.
He didn't hear the whisper of a man's voice just as the call ended, or the shuffle of a jacket being pulled over bare skin.
Because on the other side of the city, Lia wasn't limping from any twisted ankle.
