Hope!
For many gods, what they pursue is merely a sliver of hope, but even this faint glimmer of hope can drive people to madness and desperation, leaving them helpless.
This is the reality. For ordinary gods, what they hope for is to reach the level of the God-King. As for those born as God-Kings, they aspire to become Ancient Gods. This is what everyone desires, yet this hope often leads only to despair.
Even though it is just a hope, sometimes, it is impossible to even glimpse it. That is the most despairing thing of all. When everything ahead is unclear, like a mirage, it makes people feel utterly hopeless.
It is almost laughable.
But the God of Death can still possess this hope. Although it is just a tiny hope, it is crucial. Having a hope, having this chance, is the most important thing of all.
Even if...
Everything may seem like a dream, an illusion. It may feel false, yet this is the reality. Even if it's false, if one can just move forward a little, that is enough, isn't it? Sometimes, all it takes is a glimmer of hope to drive one into madness.
What is needed is just a hope. If one can see it, that is enough. Yet sometimes, even this so-called hope is beyond sight, which is what drives despair. When hope cannot be seen, all that remains is despair. How could that not drive someone mad? The feeling is truly devastating.
This is the truth. It is no joke. It's a hard fact. When everything is laid out, isn't this the core truth? An undeniable truth.
Deny it?
Reject it?
All that is sought is hope. For any god, this is the case. All they pursue is that barely perceptible hope. Just a small glimmer of it is enough.
As for everything else? In a way, it doesn't really matter. That's the truth.
But for Moirai, Ceres, and Kars, not only have they reached the level of the God-King, they also have a chance to move further, even if that chance is incredibly slim, almost impossible.
Yet!
There is still hope! It's still in front of them! They still have the possibility of moving forward, and that's the most important thing. Even if it's just one chance, that's enough.
Just thinking about it is enough to understand what it represents, isn't it? One chance.
The path ahead may seem dim, with only faint starlight that could vanish at any moment, but it's still starlight. That's still the truth, and it's enough. It's entirely enough.
This is the path ahead. All that's needed is to walk it step by step. As for everything else? It doesn't really matter.
This is the current state of the Death Gods, and it's the same for all of them.
...
"Mm~~~"
Hestia smacked her lips and sighed, "They're really working hard! Moirai, Ceres, Kars... Even though they've already become God-Kings, they're still working so hard. It makes me feel like such a slacker. How embarrassing!"
Hestia felt a bit helpless. Didn't this just make her look bad?
It couldn't be helped. It was indeed embarrassing. But! Hestia was, by nature, a slacker. She turned over and continued being her lazy self.
It's not a big deal.
It's not a big deal.
Being lazy? No problem! Hestia didn't see this as an issue at all.
"Hehehe~~~"
Rhea chuckled and shook her head, a hint of helplessness in her voice. "Hestia, you silly girl! Is this really okay? Everyone else is working hard, and here you are being lazy?"
"Ah!"
Hestia smacked her lips again, speaking nonchalantly, "Mother, what's wrong with that? It's not like it's a big deal!"
"Hahaha~~~"
Hestia laughed heartily, her carefree attitude apparent. She clearly didn't care about any of it.
She had completely let go. After being busy for so long, she had nothing left to do. Now, wasn't it time to enjoy a laid-back life?
Anime, novels, games...
Just thinking about that wonderful life made Hestia so excited she almost jumped up. She closed her eyes with a satisfied smile, looking incredibly happy.
Seeing Hestia like this, Rhea shook her head in exasperation. But she didn't say anything more.
Hestia was just that type of person. Even Hades treated his older sister like a princess, so Rhea naturally wouldn't say much either.
However!
There was no denying that, despite Hestia's carefree and lazy attitude, when it came down to important matters, she was always serious and never failed.
"But!" Hestia mumbled, "We're still missing the divine beasts of Fire and Wind. Once we find them, the Underworld will truly stabilize and enter a period of steady development."
"Actually, that's not entirely correct," Rhea shook her head and explained calmly. "Hestia, you don't realize it, but the Underworld has already fallen into place. To be more precise, it has stabilized."
"Hmm~~~"
"In other words, even without Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind, if we just give it time, millions of years from now, the Underworld will naturally evolve, allowing Hades to step into the realm of the Ancient Gods."
"However."
"That would just take a long, long time."
Rhea explained calmly, while Hestia, surprised, blinked in disbelief. She hadn't realized that the Underworld had already stabilized to this extent. Something about it didn't feel quite right!
Unknowingly!
In fact!
Had the Underworld's path forward already become so stable?
