Qin Feng's expression turned cold.
"That makes sense. Most small bases don't let people leave. They need taxes, they need manpower. Letting a group go without a fight? That's a red flag."
Not long after, the car rolled to a gentle stop. They had reached Hope Base.
Su Jiyai didn't get out right away. She looked back at the sleeping people.
"I'll wait until they wake up," she said to Qin Feng. "I'm not letting them in just because they look pitiful. There are many pitiful people in this world… but that doesn't mean all of them should be allowed into my base."
Qin Feng agreed. "We don't know what danger they might carry."
Su Jiyai tapped a few commands on her wrist device. A second later, a tall, serious-looking soldier appeared outside the car and saluted her.
"Guard them," she said. "Don't wake them. Just make sure they're safe."
"Yes, Boss Su," the soldier nodded.
With that, Su Jiyai and Qin Feng stepped out of the car.
