Chapter 1 - Shattered Silence

The rain had been falling for hours, but it didn't matter. Not to me. Not to him. The world outside was a blur of shadows and harsh neon lights, but inside the penthouse, the air was thick with unspoken tension. Every step I took in these high-rise hallways was another move in a game I had no say in.

As i was walking up the stairs i heard him murmuring something about work to the person at the end of the line, the sound of rain making it impossible to make out whats was being said .

I walked further up the stairs ignoring it when Tino one of the bodyguards greeted me:"Good afternoon Mrs. Solano" I nodded and continue walking towards the main bedroom. I switch on the lights and sigh to myself: "i really need to clean this mess". I ignore it for now and grab the book i'm currently reading "In the wake of shadows".

I make my way to the bathroom for a nice relaxing bath, when suddenly i hear the sound of something shattering. I immideatly duck for cover my heart pounding in my chest, and not even 5 seconds later Tino arrives to protect me.

The seconds stretched into eternity. Every sound from outside seemed magnified—the soft drip of rain against the window, the creak of the building settling under the weight of the storm. The silence inside the room felt suffocating. Tino didn't move. Neither did I. My mind raced through possibilities, each one darker than the last. Who or what was it?.

The door creaked open, and then—bang. The shot rang out with such force that I nearly collapsed from the shock. I hit the floor, my body reacting before my brain had a chance to process what had just happened. My heart pounded in my ears, and everything felt like it slowed down for a second. It was one of our servants.

A wave of relieve came over me and Tino helped me get up.

The clearly shocked servant, a what on the older side, skinny, fairly fragile looking man stutters:"I-i-it was a-an fals-se alarm-m". I gave the servant a forced smile, trying to calm him down, though my patience was wearing thin. "Okay, go on," I said in the sweetest voice I could muster, even though my nerves were still on edge. The man proceeds to stutter:"I-it wa-as jus-st a v-v-vase that bro-oke.

My heartbeat slowly returned to normal, but the tension in my chest refused to dissipate. I didn't know whether to laugh or scream. A vase. I'd almost had a heart attack over a damn vase. The absurdity of it made me feel both irritated and stupid.

"Okay you can go now thanks" I say in a more serious voice" Tino you too" Tino and the man leave leaving me alone to take a nice steaming hot bath.

I turn the faucet making the hot water come out I start to undress with the soothing sound of streaming water in the background. I look in the mirror and gasp in shock.

I look like a total mess.
