I woke to the sound of my phone buzzing insistently on the nightstand. Reaching over blindly, I silenced it without checking who was calling. It was too early for whatever crisis awaited me today.
"If that's my grandmother again, I'll have her phone privileges revoked," Nathaniel mumbled beside me, his arm tightening around my waist.
I smiled into my pillow, still getting used to these peaceful mornings together. "She's excited about her birthday. You can't blame her."
"I can when she calls at six in the morning."
As if summoned by our conversation, Nathaniel's phone started ringing. He groaned but reached for it, answering with forced politeness.
"Yes, Grandmother... No, we're awake... Yes, Juliana is here..." He looked at me with exasperation. "She wants to talk to you."
Taking the phone, I put on my brightest voice. "Good morning, Mrs. Ricardo."
