Chapter 7 - chapter 7

Mr. Jorge let out a soft smile as he picked up the card from his lap.

"Son, take it," he said gently. Even if you don't want it now, you'll take it when I'm gone. And by that time, it'll be much more than this. Besides, I have no use for it anymore—I'm just a sick old man running out of time. I won't be around much longer to enjoy any of this.

He stretched out his hand toward Dave, the card trembling slightly between his fingers.

"Here, son. Take it," Mr. Jorge urged again.

Upon hearing what his father said, Diava hesitated for a moment. He didn't want to make his dad feel bad, so he slowly reached out and took the card from his father's hand.

"Oh my God…" Dave whispered, still in disbelief. Is this real? Does this mean… I'm filthy rich?

Lost in his thoughts, overwhelmed by emotion, Dave suddenly rushed forward and hugged his father tightly.

"Thank you, Dad. I don't even know how to begin to thank you."

Mr. Jorge looked at Dave and returned the hug with a warm smile.

It's okay, son.

I should be the one thanking you for being here. I feel like the happiest man alive right now. "I just wish your mother was there with you to see what a great man you've become… I miss her so much.

He held Dave close in his arms, a mix of joy and sorrow shining in his eyes.

"Meanwhile, back at the Lapis home, Samantha was still furious about the divorce papers being turned by Dave. Edward had just made a bold offer: he would lend Eva the money to pay off her company's debts and even help her land a major contract with one of the biggest corporations in the world."

"Eva still had doubts about whether Edward truly meant what he said."

"Are you serious about what you said?" she asked, her voice uncertain but filled with hope.

"Yes, of course," Edward replied smoothly, flashing a confident smile. "Anything for you, dear." You just have to trust me. There's no time to waste—just accept my proposal, and I promise everything will be fine.

His charm was calculated, his words laced with persuasion. Edward was trying to bribe and manipulate Eva into divorcing Dave so she could marry him.

He had been captivated by her ever since Samantha introduced them. From the moment he saw how young and beautiful Eva was, with even a curvy figure that turned heads—Edward had fallen for her. She was the most stunning woman he had ever met.

But he later discovered she was married—and to a loser, as he saw it—he was furious. But now that Eva was vulnerable and desperate for help, he saw his chance. He would do anything to have her—and he wasn't going to let this opportunity slip away.

Eva sat there, stunned and uncertain. A part of her wanted to scream, to run, to disappear. She wasn't sure if she should agree to Edward's proposal. The truth was, she never really wanted to get married in the first place. The only reason she rushed to marry Dave was because of her mother—always pestering and pressuring her to marry some rich old man like Edward for status and wealth.

Eva had been desperate to silence her mother's constant interference in getting her married. So she chose to marry someone like Dave—not because she loved him, but because he was easy to control. A "loser," her mother called him. And maybe he was, but that was exactly the point. With Dave, she thought she could live life on her own terms.

She wanted freedom. She wanted to stay out late, party with her friends, make her own choices without a husband breathing down her neck.

But now, everything was crumbling. Her company was drowning in debt. Her mother was back in her ear, pushing Edward onto her like he was the solution to all her problems. And Edward—rich, charming, calculating—knew exactly what she needed and when to offer it.

Eva felt like she was hitting a wall. Her chest tightened. Her mind was spinning. For the first time, she truly didn't know what to do… or what to say.

You see, darling? "Edward will take good care of you—not like that hopeless excuse of a man you call a husband," Samantha said coldly, standing in front of Eva while holding the torn divorce papers Dave had ripped up earlier.

Eva looked at her mother, stunned, struggling to process everything. Samantha was pushing hard, desperate to convince her—pressuring her into accepting Edward's offer. Eva didn't know what to say. Her expression was unreadable, caught somewhere between confusion and quiet defeat.

"Come on, darling," Samantha said, still pressuring Eva to say yes to Edward's proposal.

Eva took a deep breath and held it. She didn't move or say anything. She just stared at the floor, her face turned down. It felt like time had stopped. Everything around her became a blur as she got lost in her thoughts.

Finally, she looked up. Mm... "Mom," she said quietly, "you know what? Let me think about this..."

Oh, come on Dear, I promise everything will be okay. You don't have to be scared. In fact, this is for the best. That loser doesn't deserve a woman like you—he can't even treat you like a queen. He's nothing but a beggar. "Honestly, all he is… is trash," Edward said, still trying to persuade Eva to agree to his offer.

"Honey, come on," Samantha added. "Edward is right." There's nothing to think about. You're just trying to make this harder than it needs to be. All you have to do is agree to his offers, and everything will be fine. You need to be with someone of a real class—like Edward. He's even promised to help us out, just to show how much he truly loves you.

"I know, Mom, but… I have to think about this," Eva cut her mother off mid-sentence.
