Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Leagues of Our Own

Lyon had begun making a lot of progress, he could tell. For one, Grey Matter's absolutely busted technological expertise allowed him to make things he'd never even dreamed of. Granted, the tools and equipment he had been given had so far been below what he was expecting, but he made it work. For one, he managed to create perfect replicas of the Plumber Badges and a single ID Mask from what he remembered. Said creations would be used as a gift for Cecil from Lyon.

Not only that, but Lyon also connected the Omnitrix's communications system into said Plumber Badges, allowing him to communicate with anyone who had one. And since they were practically immune from any sort of tampering, this allowed Lyon to splurge on them. Each badge had everything a global organization would need to boot, too. Video feed, electronic lock override, seamless communications, universal translator, even radiation detection. Sadly, Lyon only made five of these things, four of which would go to Cecil.

What better way get on the GDA director's good side than give him a few toys to play with? Granted, they were more like overall experiments in testing Grey Matter's overall intelligence and expertise, but he felt pretty sure Cecil wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. Besides, boredom and idle hands was something Lyon absolutely hated. It was better to keep himself busy anyhow. Plus he had to look over the massive amount of paperwork which Cecil told him was important.

"Goddamn, when he told me that this shit was 'important', he didn't tell me it'd be fuckin' boring too." Lyon groaned out in frustration, continuing to read through every paragraph in front of him. "Well, at least he was nice enough to get all my background information sorted out. Not like I could complain. Pretty sure gettin' twenty-three years of information to be spun up would be pretty daunting. Then again, he's part of a government organization. Who knows how long he's been doin' this sorta stuff." He said to himself, still absolutely bored out of his mind.

There was a ton of things he could be doing right now. He could be whipping up some awesome new tech with Grey Matter or even try to unlock a few aliens on the Omnitrix. But alas, paperwork was just as important as all of that. He didn't exactly want to be stepping over any boundaries, laws, or international treaties because of one misstep. And Lyon knew Cecil couldn't keep covering for his ass. So he had to educate himself on matters like these.

Even if it was just as boring as watching paint dry.

"Wonder what sorta of superhero name I'm gonna have to take. I ain't exactly the most creative person, name-wise." Lyon asked himself in a faint mumble, scratching his head and trying to formulate some sort of name. "Watch? Nah, too borin'. Xeno-Morph? Probably copyrighted. God, there just ain't that many that fit my sorta style." He groaned out in complaint, sighing heavily.

There wasn't a whole lot of names he could pick from. Hardly any of the ones he could think of matched his overall... description. Still, part of him admitted it sounded cool having one of those fancy superhero names, but the other part of him knew it was kind of pointless. After all, Atom Eve and Dupli-Kate let their faces be shown in the public, and so did Brit. Weirdly enough, a lot of heroes in this universe were completely okay with just letting their faces be shown.

For a moment, Lyon glanced at the Omnitrix on his wrist. To him, he didn't want to go by some alias or name. The Omnitrix was a tool for peace, a fact which was cemented in Lyon's mind, and it was a superhero gadget second. Lyon wanted his name to be synonymous with the Omnitrix, just as Ben's was with it. He didn't want to hide behind some stupid sort of name. No, he was gonna let his name be out in the open. And when people would think about the Omnitrix, his name would pop up right beside it, no matter where in the universe.

And with that, Lyon made up his mind.

However, not even a second later, a bright yellow flash appeared within Lyon's living room. Emerging from the light, was none other than Cecil, whose expression and features seemed... frustrated. Cecil shook his head, then stood in front of Lyon, exhaling as the light of the teleporter he used lingered.

"Sorry to interrupt your paperwork, but something came up. You're going to have to put that on hold for now. This is important." Cecil stated, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Alright, come on, then. We don't exactly have a lot of time to waste here." The scarred-face director grunted, beckoning Lyon follow him through the light.

"Well, at least it can't be as boring as doing this all day." Lyon commented with an eager grin, sitting up from his chain and following Cecil through the light. "Okay, who or what is causin' trouble? Gonna need some more intel before I go in swingin'." He asked curiously.

"One thing at a time. But you're going to be working with a few others on this mission. Just hope you can play nice with them." Cecil said vaguely, his eyes closed as he and Lyon began to get enveloped in the golden light. "Might want to hold your breath for this." He advised.

Lyon nodded in response, doing as he was told and held his breath. A moment later, the golden light fully enveloped them both, and Lyon could feel every molecule in his body began to shift and distort, then being pulled into a tunnel of some sort. His vision faded a, and he did his best not to scream. Lyon felt his 'self' then begin to rapidly increase in speed, going through a series of tunnels, bouncing off of them in rapid succession.

For once, Lyon wished he just flew to the damned place himself.

"Oh, god. Is this what you feel every single time you teleport? Jesus Christ. And I thought changing my own DNA was weird enough." Lyon groaned out in disbelief, patting his body all over, making sure every bit of him was still intact. He breathed a small sigh of relief, his eyes adjusting to his new surroundings. "Ugh, don't think I'd get used to that. So, what's this job you called me in for?" He asked, rolling his shoulders and shaking himself.

Cecil released a tired sigh. "A criminal organization known as the Lizard League has taken control over an experimental weapons facility. Normally, they'd be an easy enough threat to deal with, but they've got themselves a new leader running around since the last one was imprisoned. Supreme Lizard is the one in charge right now." Cecil explained, walking Lyon through the halls of the GDA headquarters, eventually stopping in front of a room. "Ordinarily, they're harmless enough as-is, but we can't allow them to make off with those weapons. So you're going to be providing a little backup. With the others." He concluded, opening the sliding door as it gave a hydraulic hiss.

"Others? What do you mean?" Lyon asked in confusion.

"Take a look for yourself." Cecil replied, gesturing towards the inside of the room. Both he and Lyon stepped into the room, where several figures stood at attention. Figures which Lyon recognized. "Apologies for being late, everyone. I had to pick up someone who'd best suit the mission at hand." He apologized, then gestured to Lyon. "Lyon, meet the Guardians of the Globe. Going from left to right, we've got Aquarus, Martian Man, Red Rush, Green Ghost, Darkwing, War Woman, and the Immortal. Everyone, meet Lyon." Cecil curtly introduced, allowing Lyon a chance to see firsthand the Guardians.

"Hm, so this is the kid keeping you busy, huh, Cecil?" A masculine voice broke out, Red Rush stepping out from his spot and seemingly sizing up Lyon. "He the one that turns into aliens? Think I saw that on the news that long ago. Pretty cool." Red Rush stated, flashing a casual grin.

"Yes, and he's going to be filling for Black Samson for this mission. So try and show him the ropes." Cecil affirmed, crossing his arms as he began to approach a table in the middle of the room. "So then, are there any questions before we begin?" He asked the group.

"Yes, I do have one." Another masculine voice resounded, as none other than Immortal spoke, his arms crossed. "Are you sure he's ready for this mission? Have you not given him any sort of training?" The Immortal asked with a frown.

"Unfortunately, given the lack of time, I was not able to have him go trough those courses yet. But his alien transformation should even things out. But yes, he will be trained in proper conduct." Cecil responded, exhaling softly as he addressed everyone in the room. "For now, you're going to show him how things get down. Your priority it to make sure the Lizard League doesn't get their hands on any of that tech and make off with it." He elaborated, placing his hands on the table.

"Understood." The Immortal nodded, yet still gave Lyon a suspicious glance.

"I'll try not to disappoint anyone. Wouldn't want these guys hogging everything for themselves and making it harder on our asses in the future." Lyon announced, trying his best to remain as confident as he could. Yet, he couldn't help but feel a sense of... awe in front of Immortal, despite his clear suspicion. "Wait, shouldn't that other guy be with us too? Omni-Man?" He asked unsurely.

"Omni-Man is currently dealing with a monster invasion of the Netherlands. But it is entirely possible he will come to assist." Cecil stated, clearing his throat. "Will that be a problem?" He asked pointedly.

Lyon shook his head profusely. "Nope. Just curious why you weren't bringing out your heavy-hitters out immediately for this sorta mission." Lyon said, trying to be as inoffensive as possible. "Okay, now that that's out of the way, I'd like to properly introduce myself. I'm Lyon, no alias yet, but pretty sure you all have heard of me. Just point me at the guys to punch and I'll have it done. I'll try not to get in your-" He piped up, beginning to introduce himself before a noise came from the Omnitrix itself.

The Omnitrix made a series of trills, its faceplate spinning in place. Everyone in the room, including Cecil, now had their eyes firmly set on Lyon and the Omnitrix. Lyon himself blinked, and then a modulated voice broke out from the tense silence.

[New lifeforms identified. Beginning DNA analysis.] The Omnitrix itself spoke, the Omnitrix glowing a faint hint of yellow as everyone in the room took a step back.

"Lyon, tell me what that thing's doing." Cecil demanded immediatley.

"I-it's okay, guys! It's just analyzing some new DNA. Completely harmless!" Lyon assured, raising his hand in a nonthreatening manner. "I think it's scanning both of them, to be frank. It kind of does this whenever it encounters new DNA. I did kind of tell you about this." He said, watching as the Omnitrix's faceplate continued to spin. "Didn't think it'd be this... obstructive when it does it." Lyon sheepishly added.

The tense moment passed. Until finally, the Omnitrix's faceplate stopped spinning, its green glow returning as the same modulated voice broke out once again.

[New lifeform DNA analyzed. Acquisition complete.] The Omnitrix announced.

"Does it mean what I think it means?" Cecil asked, his eyes narrowing and glued to the Omnitrix.

"Yup." Lyon confirmed with a smile, before giving a sheepishly look towards Martian Man and Aquarus. "Apologies for not asking for permission. This thing kinda does what it wants sometimes. I'm kinda new to using this thing. Alien tech, you know?" He apologized, nervously rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment.

"Worry not, young man. I was merely... startled." Aqaurus replied, not taking offense as he gave Lyon a reassuring smile. "What a curious device. I look forward to seeing what it can do." The Atlantean King said with a large smile, then promptly barking with laughter.

"Phew! Glad to hear it." Lyon nodded, breathing a sigh of relief. He then flipped up the Omnitrix's faceplate, cycling through the icons of his aliens before two new ones appeared. On the holographic wheel, it was two faces. One resembling Aquarus, and another resembling Martian Man. Lyon gave a wide, eager grin, as the Omnitrix's display disappeared. "Okay, sorry about the disruption. I think it's time we planned on how we're dealing with the Lizard League. I'll follow your lead." He said, excitement brewing within him.

"Can't agree more, kid. Just try and keep up." Red Rush chuckled, matching Lyon's grin with his own.

"Indeed! Let us be victorious today!" Aquarus exclaimed with booming laughter.

Lyon had to admit, for a bunch of copycats, the Guardians weren't all that bad at all.
