Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Lightning Release Mastery Complete

"Exactly."

Kushina replied with a grin.

"Let me tell you, it took a lot of effort to get these Lightning Release scrolls from the Third Hokage."

Yuuki's mood instantly lifted as he looked at the scrolls in his hands.

"Thanks. I'll treat you to barbecue during the next break."

At the word barbecue, Kushina's eyes lit up.

"Can I bring friends?"

Yuuki, still focused on the scrolls, didn't even look up.

"Whatever."

"Good man. It's settled. This Sunday, we're going for barbecue. And don't forget to bring plenty of money."

Kushina was visibly delighted. Seeing there was still time before class, she headed off to chat with her two best friends.

Yuuki didn't mind her comment about the money.

She's just nine years old. How much could she possibly eat?

Right now, what really mattered were the scrolls in his hands.

Yuuki unrolled them one by one.

One C-rank scroll. Two B-rank scrolls.

Since his chakra nature was Lightning Release, all three jutsu were Lightning-based.

They were: Lightning Release: Current, Lightning Release: False Darkness, and Lightning Release: Earth Walk.

After carefully examining them, Yuuki quickly stowed the scrolls into his bag.

He couldn't help but sigh with emotion.

It had been two years since he created the Lightning Release Mastery skill with his editor, and he'd been searching for Lightning jutsu ever since.

But with parents who had never been shinobi and no ninja training materials at home, he'd spent the last two years fumbling through bits and pieces he'd overheard.

Sure, he could generate a faint spark or two at his fingertips, but it was barely more than a party trick and couldn't harm anyone.

After hearing about the trouble brewing in the Land of Rain, Yuuki couldn't hold back anymore.

He'd gone straight to Kushina and asked her to help him find some Lightning jutsu scrolls.

And here they were.

Just yesterday he'd asked her, and today the scrolls were already in his hands.

Tonight, he could finally start training in real Lightning techniques.

The timing couldn't have been better.

With a thought, Yuuki summoned his skill editor's panel.

His eyes immediately focused on the progress bar at the bottom.

Lightning Release Mastery: 99%

Two years had passed, but the skill had loaded far faster than he'd expected. It looked like he'd finally have his second skill within the next day or two.

When classes ended, Yuuki raced to his usual training ground, scrolls in hand.

He could hardly wait to try out these new techniques.

With a soft thud, he dropped his bag by a tree at the edge of the field and opened the scroll for Lightning Release: Current.

"So that's how it works. This... and this... not too hard."

Reading through the scroll, Yuuki found the instructions seemed simple enough.

Form the hand seals, channel chakra through the body, gather it in the palm, convert it into Lightning chakra, then release it.

Simple in theory.

But in practice, it was another story.

Standing tall, Yuuki tried to perform the seals while guiding his chakra through his body, converting it, and controlling it at the same time.

There were just too many steps.

An hour of training later, he had managed only a single, tiny spark of current in his palm, which had almost burned a hole in his sleeve.

Without a teacher, Yuuki had no idea whether managing this in an hour was normal, or if his talent for Lightning Release was as poor as his early combat talent had been.

He sighed.

Checking his reserves, he was relieved to find he still had over half his chakra left.

If nothing else, he had plenty of chakra.

In fact, in terms of chakra reserves, only Kushina surpassed him in the class.

Not even Uchiha Fugaku, Uchiha Yuichi, or Minato could match him.

Sometimes he wondered how he, the son of two ordinary people, had so much chakra.

Glancing at the setting sun, Yuuki didn't dare rest. He launched into his usual evening drills.

The next morning, in his bedroom.

A soft chime rang out, as if echoing from deep within his soul.

Yuuki bolted upright, instantly on guard.

Seconds passed before he shook off his sleepiness and realized what had happened.

He opened the skill editor's panel at once, eyes locking onto the display.

Lightning Release Mastery (Click to Install)

He could hardly contain his excitement.

With a thought, he activated the skill.

A breeze seemed to rise within him, washing through his body from head to toe, clearing his mind and refreshing every fiber of his being.

When he came back to himself, Lightning Release Mastery had moved to the installed section of the panel, next to Extreme Reflexes.

Yuuki sat down, gazing at his hands.

On the outside, nothing had changed.

But inside, he knew his affinity for Lightning Release had skyrocketed.

Glancing at the clock, he saw it was only five in the morning. The sun hadn't even risen, and the world outside was still dark.

But Yuuki could hardly wait to test his newfound mastery.

He dressed, left a note on the dining table for his family, and slipped out through the window.

The streets were empty at this hour, so he sprinted over the rooftops like an ANBU, straight to his training ground.

There, standing in the center, he took a breath and recalled the steps for Lightning Release: Current.

The moment he began, Yuuki felt the difference.
