# **Chapter 16 – The Avengers' Approach**
*(\~2,000 words; first direct contact with Earth's heroes, Nerissa's power awakening, rising tension)*
---
**Earth Orbit – S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier**
The bridge was bathed in crimson emergency lighting as feeds from the Kavorus Cluster updated in real time—system after system falling to Shawn's clone legions and Titans.
Maria Hill exhaled shakily.
"We've never seen an invasion this fast," she said under her breath.
Nick Fury's gaze was flat, one hand gripping the railing.
"Stark."
A voice crackled over comms—jittery with fatigue and dread.
"Yeah, I'm here," Tony replied. "You sure about this? We're walking right into a lunatic's house."
Fury nodded.
"If we wait until he's ready, we'll be negotiating from a crater."
---
**Citadel – Docking Spire**
A sleek, unmarked S.H.I.E.L.D. transport threaded past rows of Titan dreadnoughts and Red Alert factories, flanked by clone interceptors.
As it landed, the ramp lowered to the cavernous hangar.
Steve Rogers emerged first, shield strapped to his arm, jaw set.
Tony followed, armored but helmet retracted.
Behind them, Natasha and Wanda moved in tense silence.
They were met by a formation of clone troopers in black armor and Talia herself, her crimson gaze fixed on them with something between curiosity and contempt.
"Follow," she said simply.
They marched deeper into the fortress.
---
**Citadel – Throne Room**
The chamber was a cathedral of steel and holograms, with a massive viewport looking out across the void.
At the far end, Shawn sat upon his throne, clad in dark chakra-forged armor.
Venom stood at his side, eyes glimmering with malice.
And beside her, a smaller figure clutched her leg: Nerissa, her black hair falling over her eyes, gaze bright and ancient.
Tony exhaled, voice low.
"Jesus. He has a *kid*."
Steve stepped forward.
"Shawn," he called evenly. "We came to talk."
---
**The Meeting**
Shawn's gaze rested on Captain America without warmth or hatred—only calculation.
"Talk," he said.
Steve squared his shoulders.
"You've declared war on the Kree. You've destroyed fleets, seized planets—"
"They were in my way."
"—and you're building an empire," Steve finished. "But Earth isn't your enemy. We don't have to be."
Shawn tilted his head slightly.
"You came all this way to convince me to stop."
Tony lifted a hand.
"No. To understand what you *want.* If you just keep taking and taking—eventually, you'll turn around and look at Earth."
Venom's low voice was a razor sliding across steel.
"He already has."
---
**Nerissa's Awakening**
In the hush that followed, Nerissa's small voice cut through the cold air.
"Father?"
Shawn looked down, startled—she had never spoken in front of outsiders.
Nerissa stepped away from Venom's leg. Her eyes were bottomless black, threaded with crimson veins of chakra.
The Avengers tensed, recognizing something fundamentally *wrong* and powerful in her presence.
"Father," she whispered, "I hear the other minds. All the minds."
Venom's face softened.
"She is awakening," she murmured proudly.
Shawn bent and gently touched Nerissa's cheek.
"You are safe. Show them only what you wish."
Her tiny hand lifted. A flicker of red chakra pulsed—and holographic projections of entire star systems bloomed in the air around her, showing troop movements, supply lines, resource calculations.
Tony's jaw dropped.
"She's a living supercomputer."
"No," Shawn corrected softly.
"She is *my daughter*."
---
**The Ultimatum**
Steve swallowed hard.
"You're not leaving us much choice. If you threaten Earth—"
Shawn rose, the armor shifting with liquid menace.
"I have not attacked your world. Yet."
"But you will," Natasha said evenly.
He studied her, then Tony, then Steve.
"Perhaps," he allowed. "If you oppose me."
"Then give us a reason not to," Steve urged.
Venom's smile was dark as midnight.
"Because he *allows* you to exist."
Shawn raised one gauntleted hand.
"But know this: if Earth stands against my empire…you will fall. As the Kree have fallen."
---
**A Flicker of Humanity**
For an instant, something in his expression almost softened as his gaze drifted back to Nerissa.
"Take your warning," he said more quietly. "Return to your world. Decide your fate."
The Avengers looked at one another, all understanding the same terrible truth:
He did not consider himself their enemy—only their inevitable future.
---
**Departure**
Clone troopers escorted them back to the docking spire.
As the transport lifted away from the Citadel, Tony's voice was hollow.
"He thinks he's saving her," he said. "Building a universe she'll inherit."
"And everyone else," Steve murmured, "is in the way."
No one disagreed.
---
**Citadel – Private Quarters**
Later, Shawn sat alone, Nerissa curled against his side as Venom watched from the shadows.
"Was I frightening?" Nerissa asked softly.
He shook his head.
"You were perfect."
Venom slipped closer, coiling a slender tendril around his wrist.
"Let them fear you," she whispered. "We will shape this galaxy together."
He looked out across the starfields.
And deep inside, a part of him wondered: *Would she ever see him as anything but a conqueror?*
