Chapter 2

Cossette's POV

Four months.

It's been four whole months since I became Mrs. Thomas wife .

And every day of it… felt like a slow, beautiful kind of death.

A nightmare disguise on heaven at first ...

We lived in a luxury apartment—top floor, glass everywhere, the kind of place people only dream about. The kitchen alone was massive, all black marble counters with gold handles, matching gold lights hanging above the island. Everything was perfect.

Everything… except my life my marriage...

This morning, like always, I stood by the stove making breakfast.

Scrambled eggs, avocado, toast. The only thing I could actually make well these days.

I cut the bread mechanically, hands moving while my mind was somewhere else—wondering how much longer I could pretend to live like this like a fake wife or even a not worthy one ...

That's when I heard it—the same cold voice I'd been hearing for months.

"Good morning, cossette ."

I spun around, my heart already racing with anger and sadness.

"Four months," I snapped. "Four whole months and all I ever get from you is good morning?" My voice cracked with emotion. "Why did you even marry me if you were never going to touch me, to love me ? Why won't you even look at me like a husband should look to his wife ?"

Tears pricked my eyes. I hated myself for crying in front of him.

"Why did you marry me answer me, Frost?!"

For the first time in months, he met my eyes. Calm. Blank. Cold.

"I was actually about to come find you," he said smoothly, as if none of this mattered. "I have something to show you. Come with me."

I froze.

What?

Something… for me?

I wiped my tears away quickly, embarrassed, foolish hope blooming in my chest.

A gift? An apology? Maybe this is finally it. Maybe he's finally ready to act like a real husband.

I nodded, forcing a smile. "Okay. Let's go, now ."

We walked together to the elevator. He didn't say a word.

When we reached the underground parking lot, the place felt colder than usual—empty, echoing slightly, only the hum of the lights filling the silence.

I stepped forward nervously. "Here we are…"

That's when he took my hand.

For the first time since the wedding… Frost held my hand.

My heart skipped.

Finally. Finally, he's—

"Close your eyes," Frost whispered. "For me."

Without hesitation, I closed them.

I wanted this to work. I needed this to work.

I stood there like a fool, eyes shut, smiling, thinking about the surprise and the breakfast still waiting for me upstairs.

Two minutes passed.

Then— Boom.

Pain exploded through my body.

Something hit me. No—someone. A car. My breath left my lungs before I could even scream.

I hit the ground hard, my dress tearing, the cold marble pressing against my skin. My head was spinning. I was shaking all over, trying to understand, but I couldn't move.

I didn't get it.

I didn't get it until I heard her.

Footsteps. Sharp heels on the concrete.

Anika.

My stepmother.

She walked up gracefully like a model that was stepping into a photoshoot.

Long blonde hair cascading over her shoulders in soft waves, piercing green eyes, red lips curled in amusement.

She was wearing a tight black dress, too perfect, too expensive, too cruel.

Every step she took echoed with quiet confidence, like she owned the world.

She crouched slightly in front of me like she was inspecting a broken doll.

"So," she said sweetly, like we were sharing a private joke. "Did you remove the cameras?"

Frost's voice was cold. Flat. Empty. "Yes. Everything's clean , darling ."

Anika smiled wider, standing back up.

"Perfect, babe. Now we have both her father's company and each other."

She leaned in and kissed Frost. Right there. On the lips.

And Frost? He didn't even flinch. He didn't push her away. He didn't even look at me.

I lay there broken, blood warm against my dress, heart shattered—and he didn't move a single finger to help me.

Anika glanced down at me again, smiling like the devil in silk.

"And with your little company finally merged into his…" she whispered sweetly, "we'll make sure the Lethers stay second place forever. Just like your pathetic little father always was."

Tears blurred my vision as my body started giving up. My head fell weakly to the side.

The last thing I saw before the darkness swallowed me…

Was Frost, standing there like a statue.

And Anika's soft, satisfied laugh.
