Chapter 1 - THE GIRL THAT NEVER MISSED

She looked at the aim, straight at the bull's-eye and took a deep breath. All she had done had led to this moment, all she needed was to get a clear shot and her life would change, She was one arrow away from her destiny, one arrow away from her dream, one arrow away from MENDELLIN Academy. As she stared at the target her mind flooded home to how she got here. She could see her parents and her five year old self playing around in their small compound, they were not rich, not even middle class; they were poor but as she looked at her parents all she wanted was before her. Then her minded moved closer, she was seven now and standing at the exact place she used to play with her parents, only that her parents weren't with her she could see her mother standing outside the outside the compound crying and her father miles away fumingly moving and for the first time she realized how miserable life could get. Her mind moved closer, now she was fifteen and working in their fast food restaurant and three other jobs to fend for her school fees, her sick mother and he young brother, she could feel the fear and disappointment her mother felt when she saw her working, when she entered the room she saw her mother's half smile, "Airazor" she called in a calm tone, a name given to her by her grandfather; he was the first face she ever saw and the last face he ever saw. As her mind drifted closer, she was sixteen and laying on the floor, her mother was halfway across her shattered room unconscious, her 16 awards of merit were laying scattered in her room, razor marks all over her walls, her front door was laying on their cushion as if deliberately removed and placed there and her younger brother just beside it was looking at her with a mix of fear and confusion; she had the exact same feeling about the situation. Her mind went to when first she saw the Archery banner hanging outside there restaurant, she wasn't much of a sport person but she had something about never missing a shot, no matter the distance or item be it stones, pebbles or sticks once she aimed at something, she never missed. She looked closely at the award prize $100,000 cash and a scholarship to study at MENDELLIN ACADEMY the best school in their city of OTEGARE. All she had ever wanted was to study there all that was holding her back was her funds and her family's condition, her mother was ill with tuberculosis but with the prize money, they could all live better, Mother could get better treatment and she would be at the school of her dreams with historical teachers like Prof. Mammoa and Prof. Severus. When she passed the first stage of 100 meters all of her family members were shocked even herself, with stones and sticks it was normal but with a real life arrow it was different, it was like you were to follow the aim before you shot. Her mind came back to where she was now, all the remaining three candidates had hit the black line, she was the last person because of her surname 'Wilson', she took a deep breath and allowed the voice of the massive crowd to die ,all she had to do to end this tournament was to ...….

He gazed at the sun and back at his phone, it was almost 3:00pm, this archery tournament was going as fast as he expected, he wasn't a noisy one but he liked it when they came to tournament especially archery, it was like VIP said "You could know a person by how he holds his bow and arrow", there were the boastful ones, the shy ones, the serious ones, the unserious ones and a list of others; it was the perfect thing to do on a hot summer afternoon but where was VIP 'he couldn't have left after I dragged him here', then his phone beeped 'I went to get more ice cream for you' he could almost laugh, he remembered eating his and VIP's but when did VIP sneak out, Maybe when he was moping at the next contestant that was called out 'CONTESTANT 4: AIRAZOR WILSON'!!! 'AIRAZOR' what a name! and she looked marvelous but she was taking this tournament thing a little too serious. Well, what was The Peters thinking putting $100,000 prize money and if that was enough they had to arrange a free giveaway scholarship to the winner, He wanted to text VIP, he typed "Check out the last contestant" and sent it when he noticed something, the girl he had typed about, the Airazor was doing something rather off, or was she just fooling around

He told the ice cream man to add a little more on top of the three scoop vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavor ice cream. He took out his phone and typed to his friend Clark. Some girls were giggling beside him, it frustrated him, he hated it when strangers discussed about him, especially in his presence; and they were pointing. He received a text from Clark, he had to hurry so as not to miss the last contestant performance, as he took his ice cream to move back one of the girls shyly asked if they could take a photo with him, and without looking and as discarding as ever he replied "No". "Why" the cute blonde girl replied persuading. And with a cold and slightly sharp voice he replied "You're ugly, I don't take pictures with ugly ladies" and went away leaving the girl feeling ashamed and embarrassed.

As he climbed the stairs to the stand he heard some whispers "What does she think she's doing", he turn slightly to see who they were talking about, What he saw marveled him. The contestant-Airazor that Clark was just talking about was eyes closed facing upward with her bow stretched and pointing toward the sun, her shadow flat on the ground. He was stunned, he could feel it now, it was a strange feeling, he wasn't sure of it but he could feel a smile forming in her face, as she left the arrow, a part of him moved with the bow string, just front and back, ironically, he could see the rest in her tightly shut eyes
