Chapter 3 - chapter 3: The Sudden Shift of Fate

The night passed quietly.

But within that silence, a new determination was born.

When Shen Yue opened his eyes the next morning, they gleamed with clarity. He raised his hand and summoned his status panel.

A faint hum echoed as a transparent window appeared before him.

He stared at the panel, his heart steady.

His body had finally recovered.

He slowly rose from the bathtub, water sloshing around him with soft *splash splash* sounds. Droplets slid off his pale skin, reflecting the morning light like tiny shards of glass.

He stepped out and reached for the clothes his sister had laid out for him.

It was a dark robe woven with golden thread—simple, yet noble.

He glanced at himself in the mirror and murmured, "Hmm."

The boy in the reflection had silver-white hair that framed a delicate, pale face—like moonlight. Though youthful, his features were sharp, almost ethereal. It was a face that would easily attract attention.

"So this is the body I've reincarnated into..."

As he stepped out of the bathroom, he found Shen Ning standing quietly outside. She said nothing—but the worry etched on her face spoke louder than words.

She was waiting for his answer.

To avoid burdening him, she held back her concern. But her trembling hands and tightly pressed lips gave her away.

A gentle smile touched Shen Yue's lips.

"Sister," he said softly, "why are you making such a sad face? Aren't you happy that I've recovered?"

"You... you're not trying to comfort me with false hope, right?" she asked, her voice low, but shaken.

"How could I joke about something like this?" Shen Yue replied warmly.

At his words, the tension in Shen Ning's body finally melted. Her eyes grew misty, and she instinctively raised her hand to cover her mouth.

Tears spilled down her cheeks.

Before she could say anything, Shen Yue stepped forward and hugged her.

She froze—but only for a second.

Then, slowly, she returned the hug.

In that silent embrace, her years of helplessness, fear, and sacrifice found peace. Her brother—her only family—had truly healed. What greater joy could she ask for?

After a few moments, they separated.

Now calmer, Shen Ning looked at him seriously. "Since you've recovered, you should begin physical training again. You don't have to worry about resources—I'll provide whatever you need."

Shen Yue nodded. "Sister, I'm fully healed now."

"What!?" she exclaimed. "Are you serious? Don't lie to me!"

She moved like the wind, grabbing his wrist with practiced motion. A stream of energy flowed into his meridians as she checked his body condition.

Her eyes widened.

There were no injuries, no signs of damage at all.

"How is this possible?"

Shen Yue chuckled. "Sister, can you let go now? It hurts."

He didn't want to reveal the system, so he brushed it off with a vague excuse.

Shen Ning narrowed her eyes, clearly unconvinced. But after a pause, she sighed and released his hand.

"Everyone has their secrets... maybe this is his fate," she thought to herself.

Just then, Shen Yue looked her in the eye and said, "Sister, I've made a decision."

She blinked. "What kind of decision?"

"I want to participate in the sect disciple test. I've chosen the Azure Dragon Sect."

"Huh?! Yue'er... you've just recovered. Your cultivation hasn't stabilized yet. The test is in one month—do you really think you'll be ready?"

His gaze was steady.

"Yes."

Shen Ning studied his expression for a long moment.

Finally, she let out a quiet sigh and said, "Fine. Do what you want. But don't push yourself too hard. You were injured before because you trained beyond your limit."

"I understand, sister."

With that, their conversation ended. After a few more words, they each returned to their rooms.

Shen Yue sat on his bed, deep in thought.

"If I want to improve faster… I need more than meditation. I need to take risks. Consuming beast genes and cultivating in the wild—that's the way forward."

He made his decision.

"I'll go to the forest."

Evening came.

A knock echoed on his door.

"Yue'er, come eat lunch!" his sister's voice called.

Shen Yue's stomach grumbled. He stepped out and said with a grin, "Sister, perfect timing. I'm starving."

At the table, he froze.

The spread was extravagant. Meat dishes, steamed buns, fragrant soups, and even sweet dumplings. Compared to their usual simple meals, this was a banquet.

"Did something good happen?" he asked, surprised.

His sister chuckled and gave him a mysterious smile.

"This is a celebration of your full recovery."

"That explains the food, but this much?"

"Oh, and I invited someone. You'll be happy to meet her."

Her voice was playful.

Shen Yue blinked. "Sister! Why are you being so mysterious? Just tell me!"

"Nope." She stuck out her tongue and refused to give him a hint.

He groaned and began eating. "Fine, but don't blame me if I finish all the meat first."

As he chewed, he complimented, "Your food is amazing. If I join Azure Dragon Sect, where will I find meals like this?"

Shen Ning's face turned pink. "Don't worry about that, Yue'er."

He smiled, debating whether now was the time to tell her about his forest plan.

"Sister, I wanted to talk about something—"

But she interrupted him.

"Let's talk at dinner, okay? I've got urgent work. Can you clean the table for me?"

Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked out.

Shen Yue frowned slightly. It was rare to see his sister flustered or in a hurry.

"She seems... excited. Could it be... she has a lover?"

He shook his head instantly.

"No way. She's an ice-heart beauty. Who could even qualify?"

Chuckling to himself, he cleaned up and returned to his room. He picked up a few books from the shelf.

"If I want to survive in this world, I need to know more than just cultivation techniques."

He began reading.

Time passed.

Evening arrived.

He closed his book and stepped out for dinner.

But this time, what he saw made him freeze in place.

Standing beside Shen Ning was a veiled maiden.

She wore a yellow robe, her figure graceful and elegant. Long lashes, a delicate silhouette, and a quiet, unapproachable presence—she looked like a celestial fairy.

Shen Yue stared.

Shen Ning noticed and coughed loudly.

"Ahem!"

Snapping back to reality, Shen Yue quickly bowed.

"It's an honor to meet you, elder of the Azure Dragon Sect."

The maiden blinked behind her veil, and a strange expression flashed in her eyes.

Shen Ning nearly spat blood.

"Idiot! She's not an elder. She's my senior sister, Xu Qingyin!"

Shen Yue's eyes widened. "What?! Senior sister?! No way!"

He turned to Xu Qingyin with exaggerated shock.

"How can someone so beautiful and ethereal be a *senior sister*? I thought you were some immortal elder descending from the heavens."

Xu Qingyin's cheeks turned crimson beneath her veil.

She was used to flattery—but for some reason, his words struck differently. Her fingers fidgeted, but she forced a calm expression.

"You don't have to say such things, little brother Shen," she said softly.

But the hint of a smile was visible even beneath the veil.

Shen Ning gave a hidden thumbs-up behind Shen Yue.

He blinked at her knowingly.

She was clearly up to something.

They all moved inside and sat around the dinner table.

After a while, Shen Ning's eyes lit up. "Yue'er, I have good news."

Shen Yue looked up curiously. "Sister, what is it?"

She took a deep breath.

"I've joined the Azure Dragon Sect."

Her voice was bright, proud, and excited.

But Shen Yue's mind turned blank.

His heartbeat quickened.

And then...

*Ding!*

A familiar sound echoed in his ears.

**System Notification:**

Shen Yue's eyes darkened slightly.

He remained silent—but inside, questions swirled.

"Why did the story change?"

"Was it because of me?"
