Chapter 5 - Office Games

The Light Enterprises headquarters towered like a glass crown over central London—forty-eight floors of power, corruption, and legacy. Jade stood in front of the building's gold-trimmed doors dressed in a sleek black suit and heels sharp enough to pierce bone. Her ID badge caught the morning sun—*Jade Wilson, Executive Assistant to Lauren De-Light.*

She smiled coldly.

Two weeks of planning. Two fake degrees. A doctored résumé. A few threats. One subtle bribe. And now she was here—back in their world.

The receptionist glanced up. "Mr. De-Light is waiting. Top floor."

Jade stepped into the elevator. As the doors slid shut, her reflection stared back—cold eyes, perfect red lips. She barely recognized herself. Good. That girl who cried on prom night was dead.

When the doors opened, Lauren was already waiting. Older now—sharper jaw, silk suit, silver watch that cost more than most apartments.

He didn't recognize her.

"Miss Wilson," he said, his voice smooth like whiskey. "You're even more punctual than your résumé promised."

Jade gave a small nod. "I don't waste time, sir."

He smirked. "Neither do I."

Lauren turned and led her into his office—floor-to-ceiling windows, two security cameras, a bar cart, and a locked drawer she mentally noted. He handed her a file.

"This is confidential. Read it, memorize it, then burn it."

Jade took it. Her hands didn't tremble.

"Anything else, sir?"

"Yes," he said, stepping closer. "You'll accompany me to this weekend's gala. Wear something elegant. And be ready to lie beautifully."

Jade forced a smile. "I'm good at that."

Later, in her apartment, she opened the file.

It was a list of foreign accounts. Clean fronts. Shell companies. Blackmail notes. One page stood out: a transfer tied to Jayden's father's mafia group.

She took photos. Sent them to Kelz.

A knock came at her door.

She opened it.

Kelz stood there, hoodie pulled low. "We have to move," he said. "They killed someone last night. A girl. And the cops are calling it suicide."

Jade's blood froze.

"Who?" she asked.

Kelz's voice dropped. "A former intern. She found something in Lauren's drawer. Then she 'jumped.' From the 47th floor."

Jade clenched her jaw.

"Then we find out what it was," she said. "And we burn everything they've built."

The game had just begun.
