Chapter 3 - Hate

Chapter 3

Xu Shiyan's POV

"Oh, I understand. I will send you the place to meet tomorrow for the divorce signing."

After that, he hung up the call.

Tsk.

I could fall for a heartless man like this? Maybe that's why I wanted to divorce him.

"Sorry."

I was truly shocked to hear the apology come out of nowhere.

"Why are you apologizing? Did you do anything wrong?"

"I know you were really in love with Li Wenhao. Now he's asking for a divorce... you must be really sad," Fu Ze said, looking genuinely apologetic.

Stupid.

I muttered under my breath. He wasn't the one asking for a divorce, so why was he apologizing? If I ever wanted to date a man, I should have considered my best friend. He was cute and had a kind heart.

"I might have loved him before, but now I don't even remember him. According to him, I was the one who asked for a divorce, so obviously, my feelings must have faded," I said seriously.

Ping

A message entered my phone. I unlocked it to find out it was from Li Wenhao. He sent the address.

So, I'm really getting divorced?

It hadn't even been two hours since I woke up, yet I had already received so much bad news. What really happened five years ago?

"Xu Shiyan, cheer up. There are so many fishes in the sea to choose from. Why would you lower yourself to an old man?" Fu Ze said.

This was the second or third time he had called Li Wenhao old. I hoped he wasn't ugly too.

"That man—my husband—is he good looking?" I asked.

Fu Ze's expression shifted the moment I asked.

"He is handsome... a little manageable. A nose and a mouth, and he's tall."

I nearly burst out laughing when he said, "a nose and a mouth."

"You know, that's not being descriptive enough."

"I don't care. Why do you want to know what he looks like when he wants to divorce you on your sickbed?" he snapped, clearly angry at my question.

He was kind of cute when he pouted like that. Don't get me wrong—I know this isn't a crush.

"Okay, okay," I gave in with a small smile.

"It's already 6 o'clock. Visiting hours are over, so I'll be going now. But don't worry, I'll pick you up tomorrow and drive you to the Civil Affairs Bureau," Fu Ze said as he stood up and waved goodbye before leaving.

Now, I was alone again. It didn't take more than five minutes for me to fall asleep. Maybe I was just tired.

The Next Day

The nurse served my breakfast, and I ate it reluctantly. The hospital food wasn't really to my taste. A few hours later, Fu Ze came to pick me up. The car was a BMW.

"You're rich," I teased, raising a brow.

"It's nothing. Just a gift from that old man. That's the only thing he's good at," Fu Ze complained.

From the tone of his voice, I could tell he wasn't on good terms with his father.

"Don't complain. At least you were given a car. I don't even know where I'll live after checking out of this hospital," I said, suddenly remembering I had no place to stay.

Fu Ze walked to my side and patted my back gently.

"Though you left me for a man, I wouldn't do that to you. You can stay at my place. There's too much space to waste anyway."

"You're really a good friend," I couldn't help but say.

"Thank God."

After he said that, he opened the passenger door for me. I got in, and he walked around to the driver's side.

The car zoomed off. The city looked a little different from how I remembered. Everything had changed—from the phones to the buildings.

Before, we used block phones. Now, we were using Android phones, which honestly shocked me. The buildings looked more modern in design. I didn't really know how to describe it, but the world had definitely changed.

We finally reached the Civil Affairs Bureau, and the car came to a halt.

"Do you have a picture of him?" I asked. How would I recognize someone I couldn't even remember?

"No. Why would I have his picture on my phone?" Fu Ze replied, looking disgusted at the thought.

"So, you don't know how to get his picture?" I pressed.

"Are you daring me?" he asked, narrowing his eyes a little.

Before I could deny it, he scoffed. "See."

He showed me his phone. On the screen was a photo of me—looking more mature. My once-childish features had developed into a young man's. I stood beside a tall man.

The man's peach blossom eyes held a dangerous kind of charm—soft at the corners, with a subtle upward tilt that made every glance feel like a whispered promise. When he looked at you, it wasn't just with his eyes—it was with the slow curl of his lips, the deliberate stillness of his body, as if he already knew the effect he had on you.

But what struck me most was... we were smiling—both of us, smiling ear to ear.

I must have loved him.

Li Wenhao's POV

In the Car

I couldn't believe that guy actually forgot everything. I didn't know whether I should be happy... or not. That he forgot our marriage—or that he forgot the hatred he used to carry.

"Sir, who has the nerve to keep you waiting like this?" my driver asked from the front seat.

"You don't have to worry about that," I said coldly.

I didn't like anyone speaking ill of Xu Shiyan. He was mine—and I take care of what belongs to me.

Then I saw the car opposite us , door open, and there he was—the one who had always held my heart, even while being indifferent toward me.

I knew he wasn't feeling well. Damn it, I was the one who paid for his hospital bills and the VIP room he stayed in. When I heard he had finally woken up, I was overjoyed.

But pride is a cruel thing.

I couldn't bring myself to go see him.

So I used the excuse of a divorce... just to hear his voice.
