Chapter 6 - Syndicate

The Wall is a syndicate that was founded by a teenage girl named Elle when she was just fourteen years old. Elle established The Wall right after she managed to survive a mass murder that her family experienced.

This black syndicate that operates in the underworld has various tasks, depending on the clients' requests. It ranges from eliminating a specified target person to wiping out an entire household or even a corporate building. Everything depends on the client's demands.

Aside from assassinations, The Wall also takes on all sorts of jobs, such as kidnapping targets, obtaining critical information or classified secrets guarded closely by both the police and the state. The Wall also offers short-term and long-term personal bodyguard rentals, with the longest period being six months. For lighter tasks, like house protection or ensuring home security, The Wall is also readily available.

For those not part of the underworld, finding The Wall's whereabouts is an arduous task. Elle herself ensures that all members and their headquarters remain difficult to trace and locate, unless they are the ones extending an invitation or deciding to be found.

However, every odd month, Elle attaches a note to the bottom of the public payphones located in the middle of the park. Anyone from the upper echelons who wants to avail The Wall's services simply needs to write down the job they require along with the payment they're willing to offer. Whether the request is accepted or not is up to Elle.

If, within three days of writing down the request, that person is not visited by Elle or a member of The Wall, it means the request is rejected. Conversely, if within three days that person is visited by Elle or a member of The Wall, then the request is accepted. Unfortunately, Elle doesn't specify a definite time for when she will come to discuss the job details.

There are quite a few members of The Wall who have doubts and reservations about Elle's decision to accept jobs from the upper echelons. They might be traps or dangerous requests. But Elle just laughs when she hears that. Despite their doubts, the members always trust every decision their leader makes.

The Wall's headquarters is a large, pristine white house. Its fence is made of steel and is incredibly tall, making it impossible to see from the outside. A spacious yard surrounds the headquarters, featuring both a front and a back garden.

The front garden is used for relaxation, with several lounge chairs complete with tables. There's also a fridge filled with a wide variety of beverages—juices, coffee, canned beer—everything based on the preferences of the members. The back garden, on the other hand, is rarely used. It's adorned with a few types of flowers and trees of unknown varieties; no member is interested in gardening.

Inside the headquarters, there are twelve rooms—six on the upper floor and six on the lower floor. Ten rooms are occupied, leaving the other two for unexpected guests. Sebastian Bruckheimer, a young man the same age as Zen, nineteen years old, always impeccably dressed. Sebastian is Elle's main assistant, often accompanying her wherever she goes. Whether it's meeting clients or just grabbing a snack in the garden. Sebastian was the first person Elle discovered and after passing many tests, Elle decided he would become her main assistant.

Besides being the main assistant, Sebastian also takes care of the house. From cleaning the garden to ensuring the needs of every member and Elle are met, cooking dinner and breakfast, and providing snacks for his beloved leader.

The second member is Break, not their real name, but Break felt their real name was too tainted to use. Break is a twenty-year-old with an eccentric appearance; their hair is white, and the front of it covers their left eye. Break is blind in the left eye—Break themselves removed it as a gift for their family members before leaving and joining The Wall.

Like Sebastian, Break is closer to Elle and acts as a substitute assistant when Sebastian is on a mission. Break is a sword user, transforming their sword sheath into an assisting staff and hiding its content within. The missions assigned to Break can be considered special, not random; not all members are capable of doing them.

The Wall refers to them as Class X missions, missions that require one person with a danger level reaching eighty percent. Class X missions are typically carried out by three out of the nine members: Sebastian, Break, and Zen. The rest of the time, Elle only assigns Class S missions or below.

The missions received by The Wall are categorized into four types. First is Class B missions, the most common and quickest to complete. Usually, two members are selected for Class B missions, though in certain cases, they can be carried out alone. Class B missions have a danger level of less than fifty percent. Above that is Class A, reserved for informants. Seeking secret information or investigating targeted individuals—that's the essence of Class A missions. Not all members are capable of handling these missions, so Elle only accepts a few job offers of this type, considering The Wall only has two informants: Rei and Fai.

Fai Detroit Florite, a nineteen-year-old young man with looks resembling an international model, is a world-class informant. There's no underworld that doesn't know his name. Fai has his own ways of obtaining information and completing tasks. Using his charm to approach girls or disguising himself as a bartender or even a teacher—he often does whatever it takes to ensure a smooth operation. Fai is the fifth member to join The Wall, invited by Elle.

Then, above Class A missions are Class S missions. These require two members—one as a backup who monitors the mission's progress and the location's layout. The backup ensures nothing disturbs the Fighter, from traps to hidden bombs. The backup also needs to find an escape route and ensure the Fighter can exit in case the mission fails. The backup role is often given to Fai or Rei, but in certain missions, a sharpshooter is more suitable for the backup role.

Aside from Zen, Break, and Sebastian, The Wall also has other highly skilled Fighters like Rezt and Hayato. Although Hayato is categorized as a sharpshooter, he also possesses more than enough abilities to fulfill the role of a Fighter.

Hayato, the seventh member whom Elle invited to join after a terrifying incident in his life. Hayato is the leader of a government-sanctioned legal syndicate called Bacchanale. He's known as a good and competent leader. In one mission, he realized that the government planned to eliminate all of them. In a critical situation, he met Elle. Hayato and Fai are close friends. Besides Fai, Hayato is also on good terms with almost all members, making him the most normal member of The Wall.

Next is Rezt, the sixth member to join The Wall. Rezt, a seventeen-year-old young man with the shortest height among the members, has a messy appearance, is a video game enthusiast, and has a quick temper. Rezt uses pistols for his tasks, and like Zen, he is also a main Fighter of The Wall. The only difference is that Rezt can't work alone; he must be accompanied by backup or a partner. Due to this limitation, Rezt has never undertaken a Class X mission despite having sufficient capabilities.

Then there's Kevin, the black doctor who joined The Wall through cooperation. Currently, Kevin is missing; he fled from The Wall after a horrifying incident during his wedding. His newlywed wife was shot right in front of him. One of The Wall's members was assigned a special and secretive task to locate Kevin.

Lastly, there's Kay. Kay is the newest member to join The Wall, recruited by Elle based on recommendations from several of her colleagues in the same field. Elle doesn't know much about Kay's background, including whom Kay used to work with. However, there's one thing Elle knows: Kay appears highly suspicious, and Elle already has her plan.
