I followed Aaron inside. Paige's hair was everywhere. I busted out laughing at her. She was glaring at me. Her two boys came out of the room in just their tidy whiteys rubbing their eyes. "Boys, go get dressed, we're leaving." She said as she shoved them back into the room.
I walked back to the couch swinging my hips. Colt looked at me like I was a girl that he had never seen as dangerous. I sat down and kissed his cheek. In five minutes, Paige and her boys were out the door walking.
"That worked better than I thought," I said as Aaron almost fell off the couch laughing. "You two," Grandma said. "Reminds us of our boys." Grandpa finished her sentence. "Shall we get to the church?" Virginia asked. "We shall," Kevin said. "Two vehicles, whose?" "Mine," I shouted, grabbing the keys.
I ran out to my Mustang with Matt on my heels. I moved my seat forward, letting him sit in the back. "That's your car?" Colt asked in surprise. "Yeah, are you riding with me or the adults?" Aaron had already moved into the back seat next to his brother.
I slid into my seat as Colt got in. I fired the engine up and revved it. I backed out the sun hitting the dark blue jeans colored car. I drove to the gate and opened it. "My girlfriend owns a mustang." Colt mumbled. "Hey Hedli can we burnout?" Matt asked. "Sorry but this isn't a burnout car plus if the sheriff caught me doing it he'd have the car."
Colt looked at me weirdly. "But there's nothing that says that I couldn't sling gravel." I smirked. Matt maliciously chuckled. You could tell he had grandpa in him.
Once clear off anyone especially adult family I skidded around turns having all the windows down. I glanced over at Colt. He had a look on his face like he thought I was crazy. Once to the church I parked next to grandpa's truck. I locked the car and we walked in early.
I led the way to our usual pew. Several people stopped to talk to me and find out who I was with. All the men that followed the circuit came up and congratulated me and got to meet Colt in person.
Once it started pastor William welcomed everyone. Pointing me out as I sat next to my famous rodeo boyfriend. "Who's that with ya RQ?" He asked. I pulled a piece of folded paper out of my bible and held it up. "Colt Ray? The Colt Ray?" I then pointed to him as his face reddened.
"Glad to have ya here in our church son." William said before the other announcements. Colt's arm was draped on the back of the pew as William continued. Once he was done the music director came out. "Hedli think you could help us with this song?" I nodded and walked up to the stage.
Once the melody hit I knew the song.
"The spender of the king
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice all the earth rejoice
He wraps himself in light and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at his voice trembles at his voice
How great is our God
Sing with me how great is our God
And all will see how great how great is our God
Age to age he stands
And time is in his hands
Beginning and the end beginning and the end
The God head three in one Father, Spirit, Son
Lion and the lamb lion and the lamb
How great is our God
Sing with me how great is our God
And all will see how great how great is our God"
We sang the rest of the song with the congregation. Once it was over I helped with several other songs before William was to preach. "I never knew you could sing like that." Colt whispered into my ear. His arm was back on the pew. I leaned my head on his shoulder listening to the pastor.
I took notes as he preached the word. "Passion for God is demonstrated in kingdom focused living." I jotted it down as he continued. "The third thing is Turn to Jesus." William said ending his sermon.
We stood up sang our closing song and were dismissed. Several people came up to me saying that their coming to see me ride. Finally getting out of the building. My hand was in Colt's as we walked to my car. I unlocked the door. Before I could open it Colt had it open.
"Wait for me." Matt yelled. "Is Aaron coming with me?" "He said he was going to get a ride over with Hank." "Cool the more the more fun it's going to be." I said rubbing my hands together. "Come on little dude I wanna get out of these jeans I promised Hedli I'd wear."
I turned the radio up as soon as we left the parking lot. Hillbilly Hook by the trailer park choir was playing.
"Get as loud as you want
Cause we just don't care
We're screamin' while we're skinnin' with our hands in the air
So grab a couple coolers and a couple of friends
It's a crazy kinda party that just don't end....."
Matt and I sang the entire song while Colt mostly thought we were crazy. Once we were home I parked my car and jumped. Matt got out closing the door behind him. I quickly unlocked the door and sprinted to my room.
I grabbed the first pair of holey jeans I could get my hands on. I got my pink American flag tank top and threw it on. Colt came in just as I put on some tall socks. He quickly stripped out of the jeans and shirt.
"All the things I do for you." He said as his back him my bed. I giggled before kissing his forehead. "Come mere." He whispered. I came closer to his head. He quickly placed his hands on either side and pulled me into a kiss. Living like this would be heaven.
Before I could pull away he pulled me on top of him. Kissing me deeper. "Colt." He stopped to look at me. "What is it?" "I forgot to tell you that the first ones home have to start cooking lunch." He let me go and I slid out of the room to let him dress.
I ran down the stairs. Once in the kitchen I turned the oven on to three fifty. I got out cookie sheets and found chicken strips and fries. I started them at the right oven temp. Colt came down with a shirt in his hands.
I saw his washboard abs just before he pulled the shirt down. "Saw something you wanted didn't ya Cupcake." He smirked. "I already have that Cowboy." I smirked back. "What's for lunch?" "Chicken strips and fries." I answered.
"So what's the afternoon plans Cupcake?" He asked sitting down at the bar. "You know them." "Right need help with that?" "When the family gets home and has eaten lunch." I told him. A Diesel engine made me jump for the door. "Hank!" I yelled as I basically jumped at him.
He was on the rodeo team with me. "Sup RQ how you been?" "Good you?" "Great. Who's you dating?" "You know who cow dog." That was his nickname from school, Hank the cow dog. "Agh at least I love cattle for that to be true." He said before we walked into the house.
I could tell Colt was jealous. I went over to him as he sat there and sat on his lap. He wrapped an arm around me and kissed my neck. "Colt this is Hank he was on the school rodeo team with me. He's another one of your fans." "Wait Colt, Colt Ray?" Hank said almost sounding enthusiastic. "The one and only."
My timer went off. "I'll get it." Colt said before I could do anything. He pulled the cookie sheets out at once and placed them on the stove. Man my man can do stuff for me. I watched his muscles flex under the weight of the food.
"Hedli's drooling." Hank said. Aaron and him chuckled. Colt looked curiously at me then them. "She has every right to drool over this." Colt said gesturing to his body. I rolled my eyes at the boys. Grandpa and grandma came in followed by Kevin and Virginia. Matt came down and jumped on hank's back.
Once lunch was over I went downstairs into the basement. Dad's gun safe. "Colt." I yelled after I opened it. He came down the stairs and looked over at me. "You asked how many I owned. I inherited all my dad's guns that he's bought over the years." I pulled out the 12 gauge and held it making sure the safety was still on. "This one was his favorite." Colt came closer.
"Now I know not to make ya mad when your around guns." He said. I handed that one to him and got out a Winchester. "Wanna use this one?" He smirked before I checked the safety on it. I handed it to him and got mine out.
"Dang babe." He said as I checked the safety on it. I put my 22 handgun holster on and put it in. He followed me upstairs and out to my truck. "Set them in the back." I told him. Aaron had put the ammunition to them in the back already. I set my gun down in the back and let Colt put the other two in the back.
I got in and drove through the barn out to the back pasture. Once there I got out leaving the radio cranked. I got my gun after Colt got the other two. I put my tailgate down and placed the guns down. Colt went back and got the ammo.
Aaron and grandpa came out with clays and stands in one of the gators. Colt helped Aaron set up the stands before putting the clays out. Matt and Kevin came out on the other one with the clay launcher. "Ok Hedli who's shootin' first?" Grandpa asked.
"How bout the guest?" I said. Colt came up. "Wanna shoot first son?" Grandpa asked him. He looked behind him before pointing at himself. "Yes you wanna give the first shot?"
"Which way? Launched or standing?" "I'll try launched." He said. He loaded the Winchester and waited for the clay. Once it shot out he hit it once it was high enough. It broke into pieces. "Hedli I know what your doing." Grandpa said reloading the launcher. I picked up mine and loaded it. Sitting there waiting until it was in target. I fired hitting it.
"Ok comp time." Grandpa said. "Whoever hits it first wins the round and advances." He continued. Matt was hitting ground targets and watching. Once I heard the clay released I waited and fired. It broke before Colt had a chance to hit it. "Don't worry son she beat Kevin her first time and Kevin's pretty fast. She'll be an excellent hunting partner."
I waited for Kevin and Aaron to compete. Once they did I was now against Aaron. We lined up ready but it never released. "Dang it." Grandpa said. Aaron was already back there looking at the device. The sheriff pulled up on the side of the road.
"Afternoon sheriff." I said as I put my gun on safety walking towards him. It was pointed to the sky. "Afternoon Hedli how's the family." "Since I got here fine." "Having a little fun before going back on the road?" "Yes sir and celebrating the rodeo tomorrow." "Glad to hear. Make sure not to shoot anyone or anything except squirrels." "Yes sir." I said turning back and walking to grandpa.
"Heh what he want?" Grandpa asked. "Wanted to know how everyone was and what we were doing." "Heh could mind his own business. Back in my day the sheriff didn't care that we were shootin' things except people and pets." "I know grandpa." I said kissing his cheek.
