Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Cú Chulainn's Final Trial

Strange-looking large birds occasionally flew across the sky, and the nearby bushes rustled, as if some creatures were crouching inside, waiting for their prey to arrive.

"You two are really too slow! Why are you dawdling so much?!" Scáthach looked at Asher and Uathach, who were running towards her, and scolded loudly.

Asher's mouth slightly opened, wanting to say it was because his stamina was poor and he had rested for a while on the way.

But before he could speak, Uathach beside him immediately said, "I'm very sorry, changing clothes took up a lot of time just now."

Asher was taken aback and subconsciously looked at the girl beside him, only to see her playfully wink, as if saying "Big Sister is good to you, right?" — a look that seemed to ask for praise.

Scáthach seemed to have already seen through everything but didn't delve into it, simply saying, "Pay attention to the time next time. An excellent warrior shouldn't waste time on dressing up."

"Got'it..." Uathach drawled out the words.

Asher silently watched all this, thinking that only his Big Sister dared to be so cheeky with Shishou. If it were him, he would probably be hung up and disciplined on the spot.

"Stop your rambling and let's start the trial quickly," Cú Chulainn slung his spear over his back, a wild smile curving his lips. "No matter what the obstacles, I will sweep them all away!"

"Is that so?"

A meaningful faint smile appeared on Scáthach's face. "I hope you can do that."

Cú Chulainn raised an eyebrow. "Of course. There's no difficulty in this world that can stand in my way."

Yes, all obstacles would be swept away by the spear in his hand, no matter what kind of difficulty it was.

"Follow me."

After Scáthach finished speaking, she led the group forward.

The Land of Shadows was located in the east of Ulster, standing right on a small island. Not far across the sea was the Kingdom of Camelot, and the current king of Camelot was Uther Pendragon.

Of course, because of the sea separating them, there was almost no contact between the two sides.

"Come on, today I will defeat you!" Cú Chulainn rubbed his fists together, seemingly eager to fight Scáthach.

"Although I also want to see how much you've grown compared to before, unfortunately, today's trial is not a battle between you and me," As Scáthach spoke, her purple hair fluttered in the sea breeze, her red eyes crystal clear. She turned her head and looked at the land in the distance.

"Your final trial is that," She calmly pointed to the opposite shore of the island. "Walk from this island to the land on the other side, and you will pass the final trial."

"Huh?" Cú Chulainn glanced at the opposite shore, which was quite a distance away, and the shimmering sea surface in the sea breeze. He turned his head and said, "How could it be possible to pass directly? Are you telling me to swim over there?"

"Of course not," Scáthach raised her hand. "This is the final trial that every one of my disciples must face. Walk across the bridge to the land at the end, and you will pass the final trial."

As Scáthach raised her hand, an astonishing scene occurred. A golden arched bridge seemed to appear out of thin air between the small island and the land, shining brightly in the sunlight.

Seagulls could be heard in the distance. Scáthach faced the sea breeze and looked at Cú Chulainn. "Go, my disciple. This is your final trial. Pass it, and you will master the true essence of martial arts, not just brute force."

"Heh, interesting," Cú Chulainn gave an eager smile, casually tossing the spear in his hand to Asher.

"Brat, hold this for me for a moment."

Asher hurriedly took the spear. At this moment, Cú Chulainn had already taken a few steps forward and arrived at the arched bridge.

"Watch carefully, you will face the same challenge later," Uathach whispered to Asher.

Not just Asher, but she too. Every disciple taught by Scáthach needed to cross this bridge to be considered truly trained.

But so far, the number of people who could cross the bridge was very, very few.

Asher looked into the distance. Cú Chulainn had already climbed onto the arched bridge. His body was tense like a leopard, and then a reckless smile appeared on his face. "Come on, the final trial!"

Whoosh!

In the next second, Cú Chulainn moved. He was too fast, much faster than when he fought Asher yesterday.

Clearly, Cú Chulainn hadn't used his true strength in the battle with Asher yesterday. At this moment, he was unleashing his power to the extreme.

Looks like he can cross the bridge in one go... Asher thought to himself.

However, just when Asher thought Cú Chulainn could pass the trial in one go, an astonishing scene occurred.

Boom!

The far end of the arched bridge suddenly collapsed, the entire bridge surface flipping down 180 degrees in an instant. Cú Chulainn had no time to react and fell into the sea.

"What's going on?" Asher asked in surprise.

"It's strange... it was clearly about to be crossed, but the bridge suddenly flipped over? Mother, did you do this?" Uathach looked puzzled.

Although she had heard about this bridge before, this was her first time witnessing its true appearance.

Scáthach shook her head. "To cross this bridge, one needs to maintain their self, and there can't be the slightest wavering in their heart. He was too careless, only thinking about crossing in one go. Those with restless hearts cannot cross this bridge... Of course, if one's magic power is sufficient, they can forcibly maintain the bridge in a solidified state."

"You've got to be kidding me!" Cú Chulainn said angrily as he swam back to the island. "Are you playing with me?!"

"Shishou didn't make any moves just now," Asher quickly added, afraid that the two would start fighting over a disagreement.

"To cross this bridge, one needs to maintain their self. Those with a restless heart will affect the structure of the bridge, causing the bridge surface to flip over in an instant... is that right?" Asher asked.

Scáthach remained noncommittal, nodding slightly.

"Brother Cú Chulainn, calm down a bit, and try again?" Asher said to Cú Chulainn.

"No need to calm down! Just cross this bridge in one go, without giving it time to react, right!" After Cú Chulainn finished speaking, he didn't say any more nonsense and suddenly leaped towards the arched bridge, striding across the bridge surface.

Boom!

The bridge surface flipped over again, and Cú Chulainn fell into the sea.

Scáthach gently shook her head. "Although brute force can solve most problems, and improving one's strength through battle is also fine, sometimes one needs to calm down and think calmly. Relying solely on brute force will not allow one to pass the trial."

"Why don't you try a different method?" Asher tried asking.

"No need!" Cú Chulainn tied up his hair, shook off the sweat, and took off his upper garment, revealing his strong muscles.

He raised his head and launched another "attack."

Time slowly passed, and unknowingly, the sky had gradually darkened, and the sun began to slowly shift westward.

"So persistent..." Asher watched Cú Chulainn's repeated failures and repeated attempts, unable to help but sigh with emotion.

"This is completely meaningless," Uathach muttered. "It's just constantly sprinting, constantly falling into the sea, and then swimming back to repeat the same thing."

"No," Scáthach shook her head, her gaze fixed solemnly on Cú Chulainn's direction.

"He's going to make it."
