Lethe was in complete darkness, his memories where fuzzy and fading fast, where was he, why was he here? So many questions flooded his mind, he tried to understand what was going on. His name, The drill, the hole, the tear in space. Darkness. [**Welcome to Oblivion**] a voice like his own played in his head, dancing and singing. Thoughts overwhelmed him, the scene before him changed shaping and moulding itself to mimic his minds' eye, he caught glimpses of his parents faces, his university dorm, his dog and him in the park, as quickly as it began his surroundings settled to a vast ocean of greenery, fields and trees arose around him creating a triumph of nature.
[So, this is the Oblivion you created?]. These word where echoed in his head, a soft chuckle that rang through Lethes' mind accompanied it and faded into nothingness.
He awoke blinded by the myriad of lights a large window covered the wall ahead of him, outside it depicted a world unfamiliar to him. Only a few memories remain with him. His name Lethe, and the rift, Oblivion. Outside a colossal building spanned in front of him in a hexagonal shape each adorned with a different banner. The first depicted an eclipse, devouring the sun. The second showed a sword shrouded in a soft green glow, the third a chimera with a scar down its left eye. The fourth displayed a raised hand reaching for an unknown goal with an arrow through its palm. The final was an image of a shattered sword at the foot of a great shield. Their 5 banners stood orotund on the building, Lethe didn't know where he was or what was happening, his mind felt empty like he was an imposter inside his own body. Even his movements felt sluggish. As he continued to let his eyes drift he became aware of countless buildings spanning high into the sky and a metallic dome in the centre of this unknown place. "He's awake!" This shout brought Lethe back to the present, he grew increasingly aware of the fact he was dressed in fabric like a gown down to his knees, his room had pale empty white walls and a sterile floor. A hospital, he was in a hospital.
The doctors told him it had been 10years since the Oblivion had appeared, the world is changed since then. In the 10 years he had been gone they had discovered a tear in space and time, a portal to another world called Oblivion. On the first night monsters came forth and kidnapped the 5 researchers at a facility nearby, this nightly event was named, the Summoning. After taking them into the Oblivion the five were blessed with powers. The first, Nihility, the power for complete destruction, instant and final. The second was given Eternity, the ability to control and manipulate time, force it to do their bidding. The next was given, Transfiguration, beast transformation, any wild animal small or large can be mimicked. The fourth was blessed with the gift of Telekinesis, the ability to control and will objects with your mind, anything he can see can be moved with just a thought. The last was given Crenelation, the ability to manipulate metal and shape and expand it with his mind. To create a shield wall and spears instantly and from even the smallest scraps.
It wasn't just the Paragons who became enlightened, but all who entered the Oblivion, every brave soul that faced this world to clear it of it's monsters before the night came. No matter how many times they killed the monsters more appeared the next day, and if not stopped, would march on the New World. It wasn't just to keep the monsters out, but the resources also restocked each day, coal, wood, iron, everything needed to sustain their new life even Stienar the rare material found in the beast realm that allowed for the recent advancements in technology and chemistry.
It turns out that Lethe was still in Antarctica, the doctors told him it was unrecognisable now, the once vast and empty icecaps now inhabit by cascading building and vibrant colours, countless people walked the streets below laughed and talking, Lethe felt like he should know all this but the place where these memories once sat was left empty, like a stranger had stolen them from him. He asked the doctors where he was Amal's they told him this place was called The Utopia, it was where the oblivion is located locked behind the metal dome.
After a few hours of resting and vigorous testing the doctors cleared him for discharge, his mind was still struggling to grasp what was going on, he changed into the hospital clothes given quietly and made his way to the reception area, it read:
Age – Unknown
Weight – 70kg
Parents/Relatives – Deceased
The thought of his parents deaths bought pain to his mind, he could remember they were dead but not how or when.
Full Name – Lethe
What was his last name? He couldn't remember. He should know this, so much was missing. Why? Lethe needed a new name.
