Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Ten-Year Soul Spirit — Ji Ji Ba

"Something you need?" Gu You asked curiously.

"Come with me. I'll take you to choose a soul spirit that suits you." Long Yali gave Gu You a curious glance.

Gu You followed. Xin Ya stood up as well, but Long Yali's eyebrows twitched slightly when she noticed.

"Sorry… this involves Transmission Tower internal matters. You can't follow," she said calmly.

"Ah? Wait, I…" Xin Ya barely got a word out before Long Yali grabbed Gu You and whisked him away at a brisk pace, almost like they were sneaking off to do something shady.

Deep inside the hall, many soul elevators stood waiting. Long Yali led Gu You directly to the only red elevator.

This was the Transmission Tower's exclusive high-level elevator. Only by riding this lift could one reach the top of the thousand-meter-high tower.

It took a full two minutes before the elevator doors slid open, revealing a spacious room.

Surrounded by transparent glass, the room offered a sweeping view. Although it didn't show all of Shrek City, in the distance stood the massive golden ancient tree, clearly visible, with clouds swirling all around, giving the space a lofty, soaring feeling.

Gu You was deeply stunned. This wasn't even the topmost floor — if they went any higher, surely all he'd see would be endless white clouds.

Inside, the room was very tidy. There wasn't much in the way of furniture, only some specialized instruments giving off a strong sense of advanced technology.

"First, let's test your spiritual power. Then we'll test your soul power," Long Yali said softly.

Gu You nodded, showing he understood. He sat in one of the machines and put on a special headset. A tingling sensation spread over his scalp. On the screen, the numbers kept shifting until they settled, making Long Yali's eyes widen slightly in surprise.

Seventy-four!

That was high-level Spirit Origin Realm. Do you know what that meant? Even some Soul Elders might not reach that level of spiritual power. The stronger the spiritual power, the higher the age limit of the soul spirits you could handle.

Long Yali steadied herself, then moved on to test his soul power. Gu You placed his hand on another device. Dots of light began rising steadily, climbing level by level. There were a hundred levels in total, representing ranks one to one hundred. The light shot up to level twelve and seemed like it could push further — but ultimately stopped there.

Long Yali drew in a sharp breath.

Six years old. Level twelve. A pure monster.

At that moment, the elevator chimed — ding! — and the doors opened.

In walked Leng Yaozhu, dressed in a golden gown. She glanced at the numbers on the two machines and was momentarily stunned.

"And you are?" Gu You looked up at her, noticing her radiant appearance, her fiery aura — she was both dazzling and warm, filled with a sun-like vitality. He instinctively knew this person was no ordinary figure.

"I'm here to bring you a gift." Leng Yaozhu smiled. With a casual wave of her hand, countless small orbs of light floated into the air, glowing faintly.

Hundred-year soul spirits!

Hundreds of hundred-year soul spirits floating all around! If this were outside, people would go absolutely crazy. That was like a million credits walking around!

Among them were even rare mutant soul spirits and dragon-type soul spirits.

Gu You searched carefully for a while but couldn't find what he was looking for. He sighed helplessly and shook his head.

Leng Yaozhu was briefly stunned. She had carefully prepared this lineup, picking the best of the best — and this kid didn't want a single one?

"Little brother, tell me, what kind of soul spirit do you want? I'll have Yali go get it," Leng Yaozhu said through clenched teeth, forcing herself not to get annoyed.

"Do you have a Tyrannosaurus rex?" Gu You asked.

Leng Yaozhu nearly cursed aloud but calmed herself, remembering this was just a child.

"Ah, a sub-dragon species. You really know how to ask for the big stuff." Leng Yaozhu gave a small laugh. It wasn't that she didn't want to give it — after all, this was soon to be her personal disciple, so gifting him something wasn't unreasonable — but a hundred-year Tyrannosaurus rex soul spirit? She truly didn't have one. If anything, she only had some experimental synthesized Tyrannosaurus spirits with impure bloodlines.

"No?" Gu You looked slightly disappointed.

"We do… but only a few ten-year ones, and they're all flawed experimental products with mixed bloodlines," Leng Yaozhu admitted honestly.

Gu You's heart leapt with joy. The age of the soul spirit didn't matter! After all, with the Ascension Platform — the ultimate cheat — you could raise soul ring years anytime.

"Ten years is fine," Gu You said firmly.

Seeing the sincere light in his eyes, Leng Yaozhu felt a bit puzzled. Normally, people would fight tooth and nail for the hundred-year spirits. Was there something wrong with this kid's head, picking a flawed ten-year one instead? But after thinking for a moment, she nodded. "Yali, could you handle that?"

"Yes, under the Heavenly Phoenix's command," Long Yali replied.

Gu You watched her go, eyes wide. Even though he'd already suspected, hearing it confirmed still made his heart pound. 'Heavenly Phoenix — one of the current Vice Tower Masters of the Transmission Tower, one of the strongest Limit Douluo alive, and a four-word battle armor master. How could anyone not be shocked?'

"You," Leng Yaozhu said, stepping closer to Gu You.

"Little one, I won't waste words. The real reason I came today is to accept you as my disciple. Would you be willing?"

Gu You's pupils contracted slightly. Becoming the disciple of a Limit Douluo? That was basically a guaranteed rise to the top. He could coast his way into greatness! But then he remembered — right now, he had aligned himself more with the Federation's side, and Shrek's elder council had already taken an interest in him, wanting to make him their disciple too. If he agreed to Leng Yaozhu right now, how would he explain things when the news got out?

Sensing his hesitation, Leng Yaozhu gently added, "I'll take you as my disciple under the Leng family name, not under the title of Vice Tower Master. That way, you won't have to worry about arousing suspicion from the Federation."

"Well…" Gu You hesitated.

"Mmm… alright then." Leng Yaozhu's tone softened intentionally, and Gu You felt a subtle pressure weighing down on him.

"Wait, wait! I think you're… really amazing, senior." Gu You wasn't opposed to recognizing her as his teacher — after all, this was only beneficial to him — but being pressured into it like this was… not his style. Still, with power like hers, well… 'Anyway, all the benefits are mine. Worst case, it's just a bit of gossip if the news spreads.'

Leng Yaozhu smiled faintly. Even if Gu You had refused earlier, she wouldn't have forced him. At most, she might've given him a little push.

A while later, Long Yali finally returned, holding a small white glowing orb. Seeing Gu You's dark expression, she covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

Gu You's face darkened even more. 'So you two planned this whole thing?' But then his attention was immediately caught by the ten-year Tyrannosaurus rex soul spirit.

It looked… a little odd. The little dino's head was massive, while its body was pathetically skinny — honestly, it reminded him of a certain rude comparison.

'Well, whatever. As long as it's a T-rex, it's fine. It'll grow up eventually.'

"Do you want to absorb it now, or later? If you absorb it now, I'll guard you," Leng Yaozhu said, yawning.

"Now," Gu You answered firmly. He sat cross-legged, holding the tiny T-rex in his hands. Pale white light intertwined with the purple glow inside his body, surging back and forth.

Inside his spiritual sea, Gu You clutched his head in pain. Countless images flooded his mind — memories of everything this little T-rex had suffered during the experiments, and not just the T-rex, but countless soul beasts that had been tormented.

A flood of resentment surrounded Gu You. But in the next moment, a dragon's roar erupted from his mouth, scattering the resentment instantly. The pain melted away just as quickly.

"You poor thing… from now on, I'll take good care of you. I'll even give you a name — how about Ji Ji Ba?" Gu You smiled softly.
