The battle with twenty wolves was truly a difficult task, as you had to simultaneously control several sides of the battlefield and notice where the wolves were attacking from.
For Lin, this was not a difficult task, but in the long run, he would naturally begin to tire and neglect this rule, leading to situations where he could be instantly killed.
Fortunately, Lin's reaction and reflexes were so good that he was able to avoid such situations. At the moment, he could still fight normally, provided he didn't get too tired.
Lin was breathing heavily, taking loud breaths in and out. His entire face showed exhaustion, and his body was wounded in several places, even having a piece of skin bitten off near his thighs.
But this did not stop him from continuing to fight. In his life, he had experienced much more severe injuries, which made this seem laughable. The only thing that worried him was the sudden attack of all the wolves.
Right now, he was simultaneously fighting twenty wolves and was already very tired. If even more wolves were to join the battle, he would definitely not survive and would die without fulfilling his revenge.
"I can still hold on for about thirty minutes, if nothing miraculous happens during this time, I'll definitely rot here," Lin reasoned, watching the wolves running towards him.
Sighing, he glanced one last time at the Status window in the Title System:
[Status:
— Physical health: 76%
— Mental health: 89%
— Distortion: 28%]
Seeing his status, Lin was momentarily pleased and thought:
"Although my physical health is at 76%, the distortion has dropped to 28%! This indicates that distortion can gradually decrease, which gives me the opportunity to use the skill again." Delighted by this news, Lin became encouraged and looked at the wolves.
The wolves had covered a great distance and were already just a meter away from him.
He smiled and used the skill: "Slow Motion Perception." In an instant, time within several meters around Lin slowed down dramatically, almost as if it had completely stopped!
About 7-8 wolves were in the area of slowed time. Some were frozen in mid-air, moving at an extremely slow pace, while others stood on the ground, moving at minimal speed in this zone.
Only Lin gently smiled; without wasting time, with a swift movement — he slit the throats of the flying wolves — blood gushed out, also freezing in the air, moving at a minuscule speed.
He did the same with the other wolves in the slowed area, until he killed them all.
Lin smiled and thought:
"Killing wolves in the slowed zone is a pleasure. I don't have to dodge to kill one while waiting for another to attack. I just slow down time and kill them all."
In a normal fight, he had to adjust to his opponent, as each had a different attack style and movement. This was necessary for him to strike unexpectedly.
But with this ability, that becomes completely useless. You can simply slow down time and move as you wish.
This is undoubtedly a major advantage of time-specialized abilities.
Lin became somewhat excited at the thought of the future time-related abilities he would acquire.
Calming down, Lin looked at the wolves running towards him and ran in the opposite direction. Since the skill still had a few seconds of effect left, this would work to his advantage.
All this was necessary so that after the skill's effect ended, he would have time to recover. After all, suddenly attacking a wolf while forgetting where you are — is suicide.
Besides, he would simply feel extreme exhaustion, which was already quite strong!
Having exited the slowed area, Lin ran forward with all his strength. When the skill's duration ended, the slowed zone disappeared. But for the surrounding wolves, these were shocking scenes!
This man had once again instantly killed their comrades!
"Grrr!" The wolves growled fiercely at the confused Lin!
"What? Where am I? What is this pla-!"
Confused, Lin suddenly jumped aside due to the attack of several wolves.
Fortunately, he managed to react quickly and jump away, or he would have become their next meal.
After a few seconds, Lin regained his memory and looked at the crowd of wolves, who had previously been standing and observing the fight but now, realizing Lin's danger, decided to unite and attack simultaneously!
The worst outcome Lin didn't want — happened!
"Damn! I knew I should have stayed home and not come to school today! At least I wouldn't be fighting a hundred wolves at once!" Lin sighed and looked at the hundreds of red eyes approaching at great speed!
"Even if I use the skill a second time, I still won't kill them all at once," he looked at the status:
[Status:
— Physical health: 75%
— Mental health: 84%
— Distortion: 56%]
Seeing the distortion status, Lin realized that each use of the skill increased it by about 30%.
"So, I can use my skill only three times? Isn't that a bit too little." Lin looked at the dark sky and smiled. Whatever the outcome of this battle, he still felt satisfied, as he tried himself as an Awakened.
"One way or another, I'll still kill you!"
...
Hundreds of wolves ran towards Lin, wanting to tear this arrogant man to pieces.
Lin prepared to face them, taking a battle stance, holding the ribs of some wolves he had killed. At that moment, he noticed something glowing near one of the wolf corpses.
"What's glowing there? Wait! Could it be..." Completely confused, Lin suddenly guessed what it might be:
"Isn't that a Distorted Chest? I've heard they drop from Distorted creatures, and they contain various items. For example: Distorted Items..." Lin, with all his possible speed, ran towards the glowing chest.
Many wolves stood in his way, but ignoring them, Lin used his flexible body to step around them.
"Grrr!" The wolves growled and headed in the same direction as Lin.
Covering a great distance in a short period of time, Lin finally reached the dead body and quickly looked at the glowing items.
The item turned out to be a small chest, about the size of a human head. Its appearance was quite surreal: the entire chest consisted of black and gray fur, and its top part was made from a wolf's head with no eyes. It looked quite strange and a bit scary.
But for Lin, it didn't matter; he quickly grabbed the chest and immediately heard a notification from the Title System:
[Success! Lin Matrix has picked up the Beast Chest!]
[Beast Chest.]
[Description: Beast Chests drop with a very small chance from Distorted creatures of Beast rank. What you get from this chest depends entirely on your luck!]
[Do you wish to open the Beast Chest?]
—[Yes]—[No]—
After reading all the statistics, Lin shouted without hesitation:
"Yes!"
The same game appeared as last time: — a circle spun, and at the top was an arrow that determined your reward. But now, instead of gray and bland sections, each section glowed with some color: mainly white, but there was also gray, and the rarest was green, of which there were about two.
Knowing the color scheme, Lin immediately understood that White items were the most common, followed by Gray, and then Green.
"If a Green item dropped, that would be good. But that's unlikely to happen," and as he predicted, the arrow stopped on a White item. He sighed but still looked at the item that dropped:
[Success! Lin Matrix received "Dangerous Bananas" X10!]
[Dangerous Bananas.]
[Rarity: White.]
[Ability: If you peel the banana, a special explosive mechanism activates, which will detonate five seconds after peeling.]
[Description: He-he... Bananas, explosions... Who likes to go boom boom?!]
"…"
"Seriously? Out of all possible White items, I got this? And what kind of item description is that?" Shaking his head, Lin decided not to pay attention to this and focused on the ability of this "banana."
"At least I got lucky with the ability and quantity of the item. So, it explodes five seconds after peeling? That's quite versatile, especially when you have a dozen of them."
Lin smiled and received ten ordinary yellow bananas in his hands. They were no different from regular bananas, except for the effect after peeling.
Hundreds of wolves had already significantly approached Lin, unaware that they were about to be bombarded with "explosive bananas."
Lin quickly peeled one banana and threw it into the nearest crowd of wolves. The banana flew at high speed and landed on the head of one of the wolves. The wolf stood in confusion, not understanding what had just fallen on him. And then...
Boom!
A thunderous sound burst from the crowd, and a large orange mushroom cloud rose, covering a small part of the sky.
Lin watched the explosion in shock and thought:
"It's just a regular banana… What kind of steroids did they pump into it, and most importantly, who?"
But that no longer mattered, because realizing what kind of toy was in his hand, Lin smiled like a madman and looked at the surrounding wolves, who were staring at the explosion.
"So? Where are your smug faces now?" He immediately peeled two bananas and threw them into the crowd!
Boom!
Boom!
For the wolves, it began what we humans call: hell...
...
The air was filled with the smell of burnt wolf meat, and Lin lay on a small hill made from the corpses of those who couldn't escape his bananas.
He breathed heavily and looked at the orange sky: — the sun had already begun to rise in the east, if there even was an east in this world. He had been dealing with these wolves for about five hours if you count from the moment he was transferred to this world.
For him, the last few hours were the best, as he simply threw bananas at the wolves while they tried in every possible way to escape them. Some, unfortunately, managed to do so, but most became this small hill for him.
After resting, Lin slowly stood up and headed toward the Red Gates; he was so exhausted that he could barely walk. Luckily, in the last few hours, he hadn't really needed to.
"Unfortunately, I have no more Dangerous Bananas left. They were really good." Lin was pained to realize this, but he accepted it nonetheless. Along the way, he glanced at his own creations, made with the help of bananas.
The ground was scattered with craters about five meters in diameter, inside which lay charred wolf meat and their bones. Steam rose from the craters, dissipating into the air.
"I still survived… Looks like luck hasn't left me." Lin smiled and stood near the Red Gates, looking at them.
The Red Gates consisted mainly of Distorted flesh, which could move at will on Earth. But in the Dead World, they were static, which certainly pleased Lin.
"Well, my first adventure in the Dead World turned out to be tough but enjoyable. And now..." Lin lifted his foot and was about to step into the portal when it suddenly disappeared.
The Red Gates completely closed.
Lin: "…"
"My luck is terrible after all!"
