Cherreads

Chapter 6 - Free

Another week passed in a blur.

My job was simple yet so complicated, all I had to do was deliver letters to the ladies who dared to use the Paramour Pigeon, and unfortunately for me, they were a handful.

From sorting the letters to figuring out the rooms of the ladies, the whole heist was both mentally and physically draining.

It was a good thing I learnt to pick locks. I would have settled for just sliding the letters under their doors, but according to a certain someone that didn't seem mystical enough.

And with a dozen forced laughs and fake smiles I managed to locate the rooms of each lady. I think I've gotten enough tea parties to last a lifetime time and the next.

Since our last conversation, I haven't caught sight the white haired devil.

Caeser.

He gave me no last name, and I doubt that was even his real name.

Normally, when I visit the secret room to retrieve letters, he was always there. He was either reading an old book or drinking wine.

He would welcome me with a cheeky smile on his face, and I would ignore him, then he would laughs, throwing taunts at me to get my reaction.

But now all I met was stack of neatly arranged letters at the desk.

I trot over to collect the letters, but then a glint of light flickers from the corner of my eyes.

I stop dead in my tracks, whipping my head to the side.

I turned on my heels, making a beeline for the pillar. Right in the middle of the pillar, laid a cup of wine. And at first glance, only one name came to mind.

Caeser.

What was he up to now?

And why did my heart rate pick up?

The cup wasn't alone, keeping it company, was a small envelope. The cup acted as a paper weight to keep the envelope still.

I eyed the envelope cautiously before finally picking it up, careful not to spill the wine over on the pillar.

I opened it slowly, curiosity and anxiety dancing at my fingertips. I wanted to know what was inside, and at the same time I didn't.

But it was too late now, with the seal broken and the contents of the envelope revealed.

It was a letter.

My dear damsel in distress….

It read, and I fought the urge to roll my eyes at the silly nickname. Pressing my lips into a thin line as I read on.

Have you missed me?

No need to answer that, I know you have, you're just too lost in denial to accept it.

I snort, then scoff.

His arrogance really shines in everything he does.

Anyways, I've missed you and I'm not going to deny it. One of us has to be the bigger person. My dear damsel, It saddens me to inform you that I won't be able to grace you with my presence any longer, I'm a busy man you see.

The letters on the desk are the last batch for the week, and there wouldn't be anymore after that.

Wait…does this mean…

After today, the paramour pigeon would cease to exist. I've made plans to address this fact accordingly, so you don't have to worry your pretty little head.

It was nice doing business with you my dear, and I will keep to my word and honour the terms of our agreement.

On the third night after today, a carriage would be waiting outside the gate to pick you up. You're free to take it to any destination you choose and don't worry about the guards, a path would be made for you through the northern gardens.

I wish you good luck on your escape, and if the words you told me are true. Then I hope you find peace with your newfound freedom.

Eternally Yours,

~Caeser.

As I read the last line of the letter, my gaze lingering on the word 'freedom', I couldn't help the wide grin that spread my lips apart.

Finally, I can get back to my life.

I realized that in all honesty, Caeser didn't really need me. Anyone could have opted to be his middle man, I'm sure a few maids would jump on the opportunity, anything to make extra cash.

I'm also certain he must have bribed a few gaurds as well, that would explain how he's able to enter and leave the Aurora totally undetected. He portrayed himself like a man that was neck deep in wealth, so I could never really wrap my head around the reason he was going through all this trouble.

Was this really just about his business?

Or was it something more?

Either way I was just glad to be over and done with it all. The mystery of why I was selected still remains, but it'll all be behind me when I walk through those grand gates.

My smile grew wider, hope reflecting in my green eyes.

Grandpa…I might finally be able to fulfill my promise.

The next morning, I'm not woken up by the morning bell, but by soft whispers and a gentle pat on my shoulders.

"Lady Violet…"

I groaned, shrugging off whoever it is as I hugged my pillow tighter to my chest.

"Lady Violet!"

The whispers transition into a firm yell, and it does the trick as I jolt awake. Another groan follows, and I peer through my hooded eyes to see who hated me so much to interrupt my sleep.

"Good morning lady Violet." It was Miss Marinette, and I blinked again to make sure I was seeing properly.

Isn't it too early for etiquette training?

"What…doing here?..." I slurred, confused and half asleep.

"I'm here to get you ready of course." She says as a matter fact, like I knew what she was talking about.

"Huh?"

Miss Marinette shakes her head at me, then she pushes her glasses up her nose and claps her hands. My brows furrowed, my face showing nothing but utter confusion.

Just then, a dozen maids line up into my room, and my mouth is left ajar when I see the various dresses each of them held up.

White pristine….. Wedding dresses.

I whip my head to miss Marinette, fully awake now. She offers me a closed eyed smile, holding unto the hem of her dress as she courtesy bows.

"It's with great honour," she starts, and I just stare, dreading what she'll say next. "That I help you prepare for your wedding, Miss Violet Roseline, bride candidate of the distinguished…..Sohma family."

My eyes widen, my expression shifting from shock, to horror in a matter of seconds.
