Chapter 2 - UA Exam

During my time at a private academy, I had made acquaintances with Tenya Ida. I found him rather loud and a stickler for the rules, but he was fine nonetheless.

"Hello, my name is Tenya Ida, the youngest Ida son and brother to Ingenium. What's your name?" Ida said.

"Mark Grayson," I said.

"It's nice to meet you," said Tenya.

"So, can I assume you're going to be a hero? Ingenium is a pretty popular name. I'd imagine you would want to work with him one day, " said Mark

"Yes, I strive to be the honorable and just hero that he is. What do you want to do? Your quirk seems powerful. Do you want to be a hero?" said Ida

"I want to be a hero too! What school do you want to go to?" said Mark.

We then talked about how we were both going to be applying to UA and why we wanted to be heroes. When I told him why, I explained to him that it was personal and I didn't want to talk about it. He let it go. Outside of what school we wanted to go to, we didn't have much else in common. We didn't hang out much outside of class.

One year later

I had turned 14, and it was 10 months until the UA entrance exam. Izuku came to my house one day and told me that he wouldn't be able to come over very often anymore because he would be training for the UA entrance exam.

"Are you sure? You don't have a quirk; it will be a lot harder for you than for the other people at the exam. There is someone who I went to school with who is Ingenium's younger brother and has his same power. I am telling you this because you are my friend and I am concerned." I said

"Don't worry about me, I have it handled," said Izuku

Something about how he said it made me think he had full confidence in his choice, so I left him alone. In ten months, he will prove it at the UA entrance exam.

10 months later

The UA entrance exam came. The first was the written portion of the exam that we were all to take before the practical portion. It was pretty easy; fortunately, my grades were good enough at my previous schools that this test was a cakewalk. The practical exam was next. There were four types of robots to destroy. The one pointers were the easiest, having very little armor and offense. Then the two pointers, which were stronger in every facet, and then the three pointers, which were stronger still. Lastly, the zero pointer was a behemoth of a robot, just reaching 200 feet tall. The teacher said that while you could take it down, there was no point, considering that it gave you no points.

All of us were lined up for the test. There was a kid with red hair who seemed to have a hardening quirk, and another kid with multiple webbed arms. He didn't see Midoriya or Ida here, so he figured they were in another testing room.

"There are a lot of strange quirks," I thought.

Then we heard a big booming voice.

"STAAAAAARRRT!!!" said the voice.

"What?" said the crowd

"Villains won't give you a countdown, you think that we will? You better start going NOW!" said the voice.

People were immediately running towards the nearest drone they could spot. But I stood still waiting for people to get out of my way. When everyone was gone, I jumped 30 feet high with ease, landing on top of a three-pointer, crushing it. I then ran to another drone and tore it in half with my bare hands. With pure brute force, I tore through every drone I saw. One pointers, two pointers, even three pointers. It didn't matter; I tore through them all with ease. Another three-pointer came, I ripped off its leg and crushed the robot with its own body. But I wasn't done. A girl with pink skin and horns was surrounded; it didn't look like her power was that strong, so I jumped in, bulldozing two of them in one attack. She then used what looked to be acid to melt the third one. I was surprised. "Can't say I saw that coming." Mark thought. Then a booming crash echoed through the testing ground like a mountain crumbling to pieces. Then another, and another, and another. The zero pointer had shown itself. People were running away from the monster because, as the proctor said, it wasn't worth the effort of destroying it. But there was a girl trapped under some debris. She had a mushroom hat on, and she was rather short. As the zero pointer was walking, I could see that it was walking right for her. I could only act; I ran towards the girl, rushing past everyone who was in my way. The robot's last step was approaching; it was going to crush her. I didn't have time to pull her out, so I did the only other thing I could think of. I planted myself like a tree, preparing to take the full force of the step. BOOOOOOM. The room fell silent, and people saw what I had done.

"Did those people just die?" thought the crowd.

Even the teachers Aizawa, Present Mic, and Cementos stood in shock; they tried to stop the robot remotely, but couldn't. However, underneath the dust, Mark was holding the weight of the beast. His bones and joints were screaming at him, but he held firm.

"GET...OUT!!!" Mark screamed at the girl in the mushroom hat.

He was in a kneeling position, slowly starting to rise. Inch by inch, he rose. Until finally, he was standing with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Finally, she broke free and was able to crawl out.

"Look, a girl, she's coming out," said a random person in the crowd.

Meanwhile, the teachers were doing everything they could to move the zero pointer off Mark. They were trying everything, pressing every button, but it seemed that the robot was malfunctioning. The zero pointer took another step, putting its full weight on the mark. He then fell to a kneeling position, and his shoulder popped. He was still holding firm. It took another step and pulled itself off Mark. The test buzzer rang out, "THE TEST IS OVER!!" said Present Mic. The teachers immediately came to my aid to see what had happened to me. When they saw I was fine and had nothing but a dislocated shoulder, they were shocked. The room was silent for a few moments after that revelation.

"Kid...Did you hold the full weight of the zero pointer? Cementos asked

"Yeah... I did. I saw someone who needed help, and my legs just moved without me even thinking," said Mark.

Everyone just stared at me in shock. The test takers, the teachers even the principal. Those who saw the whole thing were speechless. The recovery girl had someone pop my shoulder back into place, seeing as she was pushing seventy, then she told me, "Be careful next time, you may be strong, but you are not invincible."

I got home to the apartment, Tsukauchi had left a note on the fridge, "Working on a case, there is stuff in the fridge. I should be home around 8 pm."

I made a frozen pizza for dinner and waited for my UA letter to get back. I remember that my score was pretty high for my group; I had 79 villain points.

Tsugauchi got home at around 8:30 from work. He asked me how it went, and I told him that it went well. I got the highest score on the practical exam, and he gave me a pat on the back. After he ate, he asked me to play cards, and we just hung out.

"Nice work getting there, man. All that hard work paid off." Tsukauchi said.

"Thanks," I said.

Mark and Tsukauchi had more like a brotherly bond than anything else; it wasn't a father-son type relationship. Mark still respected that it was his house, and he followed Tsukauchi's rules and was respectful. He never could replace Mark's father, though, and he never tried.

I got the letter from UA in the mail about a week later, a hologram of all might appeared on the screen. "Hello, young Grayson, I am here to tell you first that you PASSED YOUR EXAM! Your scores were truly PLUS ULTRA, and getting the highest villain score of all the applicants was truly astonishing. However, that was not the only part of the test. There was also a second secret aspect of the test that we didn't tell anyone about until everyone finished. RESCUE POINTS! After all, hero work is just about taking down villains; it's also about saving lives. In light of this, and with what you did with the zero pointer at the practical exam, what hero school wouldn't accept a student who would put their life on the line for someone else? You earned 60 RESCUE POINTS! Giving you a total of 139 POINTS! Congratulations, Young Grayson. Truth be told, you got the second-highest score of all time, second only to me. Welcome to the Hero Academia.

After the recording was over, a message played. Please send any suit designs that you have to this mailing address. DO NOT LEAK THIS ADDRESS OR YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED.

"Well, that seems pretty clear," I thought.

Mark then told Tsukauchi about his test results and what the scores were. And he hugged him with great joy.

"WHAT! dude, that is the second highest score of all time, the only person who got a higher score was All Might himself at 156. I have to talk to him about it," Tsukauchi said

"What do you mean, talk to him about it?" Mark said

I mean, call him up and talk to him about your scores." Tsukauchi said.

"Wait a minute... YOU HAVE ALL MIGHT'S PHONE NUMBER!?! AND YOU NEVER TOLD ME!?! WE HAVE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR TEN YEARS AND YOU DIDNT TELL ME YOU KNOW THE FREAKIN' SYMBOL OF PEACE AND JUSTICE!?!" Mark said sporadically

"To be fair, you never asked," Tsukauchi said.

"You never asked... did you REALLY just tell me that!?! Wait, what have you told him about me?" Mark asked angrily

"I mean, I told him I adopted you, about your parents, and other childhood stuff. That he is your favorite superhero. Do you want to talk to him?"

"NO. I am not ready, are you serious? He will be one of my teachers, I will talk to him then, ok?" said Mark.

"Ok," Tsukauchi said,

"wait, did he ever say he wanted to see me?" asked Mark

"Yeah, but I always told him you were busy with school or other extracurriculars. School is important," Tsukauchi said.

"I don't even have time to be mad at you right now. I have to design a costume by next week. GOODNIGHT!" said Mark.

Tsukauchi just laughed.

One week later

Mark designed his suit and finished it by the deadline. (picture season 1 Mark Suit)

"Alright, I have a big day tomorrow. It is the first day of school, and I should probably get some sleep." Mark thought

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Authors note: i know kryptonians are stronger than this in the DC universe but I wanted to have the main character have actual challenges so the story isn't boring. he will get stronger as the fan fic goes on, but for right now all might will still be the benchmark for power by a pretty big margin. at least for the beginning of the fic. also this will not be a harem. I am getting kind of tired of those. truth be told i will actually stop reading a fan fic if it is a harem.

please leave comments on what you think i should do.
