Chapter 1 - Prologue

They say that the sea is a mysterious thing. That once you travel across it, you'll never return to the way you were before. I've heard of the stories about the sea. The horrors that people would tell. What mysteries the sea holds with its secrets untold or seen by human eyes. The saltwater depths of secrets not yet known to mankind. Some would hide from it, hoping that if they turned away, it would disappear like a fog cloud in the wind. However, some lived for the thrill of the unknown, sailing an unknown sea for ages just to get a glimpse of the mysteries it holds without losing their life to the dangers it brings. Insane drunks is what people called them. The people around would call them crazy, yet I had a view of them. Curiosity became my doomsday, wanting to know what drove people to believe such stories, such rumors. How naive I was to think this way, to wonder at their unwell minds and how they tick. Watching them sail on their crowded ship, causing a riot of fire and ash as they go. The sails were ripped in some places, a symbol on their sails made people lose their minds. The overwhelming sounds of chaos was deaf to my ears, only watching the far away ship sail away from the safety of land. Why would they leave? What made them want to leave? Was this world cruel enough to make them want to sail to their possible end? At that time, I only had unanswered questions, followed by my unwavering curiosity. My child mind couldn't possibly understand why the world was what it was, broken and fueled by the flames of anger, fear, cruelty, words I never wanted to feel in my soul. Watching the ship fade into the mist of falling ash, I never thought I'd see something so cruel again. At first, I would've regretted stepping off land, but now, it's what I live for.
