A week had passed since Liam had been hospitalized. Seven long days of whispers trailing behind me in hallways, of sympathetic glances from Seraphina and Debra, and of my wolf whimpering inside me, too weak to emerge. I hadn't been able to shift since the rejection, and the physical pain lingered like a dull ache that never quite left.
It was bad enough dealing with the rejection, but seeing Rhys and Zara together around campus was pure torture. Despite his confusing claim in the courtyard that she wasn't his girlfriend, they certainly acted like it. His arm draped possessively around her shoulders, her hand tucked into his back pocket as they walked the halls, her head thrown back in laughter at whatever witty remark he'd made.
"There goes the omega who wasn't good enough for our future Alpha," I heard a girl whisper as I passed by the cafeteria. "Can you blame him though? Look at Zara and then look at her."
