Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

General Yves sat at the head of the table. He was almost hit by a heavy pile of potatoes and sweet potatoes.

The guards quickly found a shield and held it up in front of General Yves.

The monks, Taoists, and spirit mediums that General Ulric brought were all shocked.

They had never seen divine blessings so direct before. They were very surprised inside.

Some knelt down, some bowed with their hands together, others danced or did rituals.

They worked all afternoon. General Ulric followed the three methods by burning incense, chanting, and bowing, but nothing happened. Suddenly the god gave a blessing again.

In the hall, when everyone woke up, the potatoes and sweet potatoes had piled up like a small mountain.

After things calmed down, General Ulric realized he needed to send people to bring baskets to carry the food.

It took about twenty to thirty baskets to carry everything. There was no more space in the room.

General Yves frowned and quietly watched this scene. No one could tell what he was thinking.

General Ulric saw General Yves's face and felt a little scared. No one said anything, so he had to continue.

"Commander, what should we do with this food?"

"First, have the military doctor check if it is poisonous," General Yves said after a short pause.

General Ulric noticed the potatoes and sweet potatoes looked very different from usual. They were much bigger and looked better.

He quickly ordered his men to call the military doctor who was with them.

Having food was important to supply the army camp. But they did not dare to send unknown food carelessly.

After about half an hour, soldiers brought in a strong older military doctor with some gray hair.

"How is it? Has the test finished? Is there poison?" General Ulric asked quickly.

"Reporting to General Ulric, all twenty-eight baskets of food were tested. No poison was found."

The doctor said they fed the food to mice. After half an hour, the mice were still lively and healthy.

This meant they suddenly had almost two thousand jin of food.

General Ulric looked at General Yves's face. Then he sent the spirit medium, Taoist, military doctor, and soldiers out.

The room was empty except General Yves, General Ulric, and boxes of gold, silver, and jewels on the floor.

"Commander, since the god gave so much food, we should thank it," General Yves said, thinking carefully, looking at General Ulric.

General Ulric understood immediately.

With a flattering smile, he moved the boxes of gold and jewels in front of General Yves.

In the past, if anyone acted so strange and superstitious in front of General Yves, they would be kicked out right away.

Howell heard the noise from his yard. He ran to the front yard without greeting anyone. He pushed the door open and came inside.

He saw General Ulric's big bear-like body moving awkwardly in front of General Yves, almost funny.

Just when Howell was about to laugh at him, the three or four boxes of jewels at General Ulric's feet disappeared quickly.

Howell was suddenly silent, like a duck with its neck squeezed.

General Yves showed no reaction. General Ulric smiled widely with his simple face.

Following General Yves's eyes, General Ulric saw Howell and immediately looked serious again.

"Mr. Howell, if you acted like this in the camp, you would already be punished with the military baton," General Ulric said with a cold smile.

Howell knew he was in the wrong and wanted to argue back, but General Yves was there, and Howell knew his position in Yves' eyes was not as important as General Ulric's. So he bowed slightly and said, "I apologize for my rudeness."

Yves glanced around and looked at General Ulric. "Howell, I have heard a little about what happened in the main hall. This kind of ritual ceremony master, General Ulric may not be very skilled at it, but I understand a bit about it. How about I handle it?"

General Ulric was a military man with a fierce face. Hearing this, his eyes opened wide like copper coins. "You brat!"

He really hated these civil officials who could easily take the results of others' hard work just by talking.

Both looked at General Yves, waiting for his decision.

"General Ulric leads, Howell assists."

General Ulric breathed a sigh of relief.

Thinking carefully, this matter involved the needs of thousands of soldiers.

Howell was satisfied with Yves' words because he hadn't taken part in the earlier work.

The sweet potatoes and potatoes delivered to the camp were quickly cooked into pots of soup. The sweet potatoes and potatoes were switched and then thrown into the pot to boil.

Water was scarce, so only a little was added, giving each soldier a small bowl of mush.

That night in the camp, drinking hot soup, the soldiers' hearts were calm.

After feeding the pigs, Sophia hurried to take a bath.

After washing, while drying her hair, three thousand jin of sweet potatoes, three thousand jin of potatoes, along with cabbage and white radish, were delivered.

Two trucks were used to deliver the goods, and four people unloaded for almost an hour.

"Big sister, here is the delivery note. Please sign!"

The boss personally came with the trucks.

After unloading, Sophia checked the goods and then signed the delivery note.

"Thank you for your hard work, you can leave now."

The boss handed Sophia a business card. "If you need anything else later, just call me."

The card listed the fruits and vegetables his store sold.

Sophia didn't have time to look carefully. She still had to rush to the airport to pick someone up. She nodded politely, sent the boss away, put the card on the table, closed the door, and quickly drove to the airport.

Honestly, she had spent more than twenty thousand on this second-hand car. She hadn't driven it much before but had been using it more frequently these days, especially driving at night.

Sophia left in a hurry and, having just bathed, didn't go back to the dark pigsty. She didn't know the pig trough she had placed in the pigsty had again appeared four ancient but gold-edged boxes.

The boxes shone brightly under the moonlight.

When Sophia was still about ten minutes from the airport, she received a call from Amelia.

"Little junior sister, I forgot to tell you, I've already booked a hotel in the city. I'll come find you there early tomorrow."

"Senior sister, I'm driving now, almost at the airport. Should we pick you up and take you to the hotel?"

Sophia talked with Amelia over the phone while wearing headphones.

Amelia didn't expect Sophia to be so active, but thinking back to college days, it matched her personality.

They agreed to meet at a certain exit and ended the call.

Sophia parked at the south gate and waited for a while before seeing Amelia walking alongside a woman about fifty or sixty years old.

From Amelia's close listening posture, it seemed the older woman might be her teacher or leader.
