Sunlight glazes necks
The sum of which a hill
Where the hooves clammer
For their children to enamor
Sweat beads
And their efforts lead
Mixtures swirl
And pool beside the soles
Of steel hooves and shovels
Each movement mounds
And soil compacts by pounds
the myriads layer a surface
Ears twitch beneath hard hats
and noses scrunch
Under the hearth of the sun
They gather together
In a collective shape
And press the mulch into one form
Sweeping the sweat from their fur
They nod and lie against the grass
Unwinding from the pressure of life
And dozing off inside the meek breeze
Sleeping away the stress
Counting people
